According to Carole Malone, The Pledge won't be returning.

The Pledge was one programme that made me immediately change channel, but good on them for sticking with it for four years. At launch, I would never have expected it to last that long.

Although she seems unclear as to whether it's for good or not based on her tweets.

Last thing we were told (as people who work on it) was that it was suspended as a result of Coronavirus and will be back... but of course, that might have changed now.

Remember that The Pledge was based on a Fox News format, 'The Five' which is renowned for right-wing ranting, with a token Democrat supporter to provide balance with the other four Republican panellists.

Now while The Pledge wasn't as extreme as The Five has ever been, the early days of the programme were full of shouty types, which then turned into something a tad mellower, but for me personally, still unwatchable.

Moving away from using a Fox News talking heads format is fine by me.

I rather like The Pledge. It’s probably the best example on tv of different views being heard fairly, having a decent mix of panelists who don’t necessarily hate each others’ guts and who are given a decent amount of time to debate. It always seems well balanced and doesn’t fall into the trap that Question Time does of debating the same things over and over.

I agree with you, Phil. I only ever saw it a few times. But felt it was quite good television, actually.

I’ll also admit I had to watch it a few times for it to grow on me.

Who was on the original Pledge episodes? I remember Nick Ferrari, Carole Malone and Emma Barnett (wonder what happened to her?).
