I think part of the business of Parliament is making it accessible and visible to the public. To maximise engagement, the experience needs to be as good as possible. Broadcast quality equipment should be considered essential to the transparency of Parliament. Of course, as with all things public money a balance should be struck between the right experience at the right price point.

Parliament does not work better just because it is in HD.

You can see your MP sweat better in HD

(Not tv pres related. But just an observation I’d like to make).

I may be late to the party (forgive the poor illustrative term), but have just learned that Doctor Jenny Harries also had COVID19.

So the UK Prime Minister, Health Minister, Chief Medical Officer and Deputy Chief Medical Officer have all been stricken with this disease. This is rather incredible, in that they seem to possibly not have heeded their own advice at some point or another, or were not isolated sufficiently to ensure national security during a pandemic.

I’m probably not expressing myself very well but the point trying to make is that I’ve not heard of any other nation where the entire top table has been temporarily wiped out (at different times) by the virus.

Losing (albeit temporarily) key top individuals during such a crisis is quite unbelievable.

Doctor Harries gave an interview to Lorraine Kelly on ITV this morning.

I agree that the activities within Parliament don't work any better in HD.

If you believe that the impact of Parliament is greater when the electorate are engaged (which I do), then anything (within reason) that reduces barriers to engagement and improves the experience of engaging with Parliament has huge value. We wouldn't be members of this forum if we didn't believe in the power of TV.

I'm not necessarily advocating for a full HD refresh of the broadcast capabilities of the institution - but relegating those capabilities to cobbled together webcam footage doesn't cut it. How can we expect the electorate to respect the authority of the institution if they can't see it in a way that appears to be respectable...?

Is anyone surprised Boris Johnson may not wash his hands? Laughing

Am I right in thinking only C4, C5 and Sky have been doing this, and in Sky's case not that frequently - I've only seen Sarah Jane Mee mentioned on here.

The questions from journalists are at the daily conference are getting worse. Dan Hewitt from ITV has just asked how key workers are meant to be able to book tests on the website if they need to do so at 8am as they will be at work, despite the tests being meant for those with symptoms and their families and therefore anyone eligible shouldn't be at work in any case.

There are a lot of people assuming, incorrectly, that these are antibody (i.e. have you had it) rather than antigen (i.e. do you currently have it) tests...
