So BBC One have just left the press conference, but it continued on the news channel.

I thought that wasn’t technically possible, and also wasn’t necessary as it’s on Five Live if anyone wants it?

EDIT: Although it only lasted about another minute, so they could have kept it all on BBC One, and not done the weather

NC stayed with it to the end, and then crashed into weather.

Hilarious. The Chief of Defence Staff has turned up wearing camouflage - who is he hiding from?

I worked for MOD for many years - this is not normal day dress for Officers. Turning up in a 'No.8 MTP Combat Uniform' makes him look rather silly.

It’s what the public expect to see. Otherwise he could have been written off as a ‘suit’ that hasn’t ever got his hands dirty on the front line.

No it isn't, otherwise they wouldn't have other uniforms for use in such situations.

He drives a desk. I wouldn't expect Chris Witty to turn up wearing surgical scrubs and PPE.

It's always been technically possible, it's just up until now (during this crisis) the BBC have said they haven't had the staffing available to do so. That's clearly not the case today

Looks like a JVC to me - something like this https://cvp.com/product/jvc_gy-hm620/department/video

Yes, you're probably right on the JVC suggestion.

Now you're not suggesting the government are using distraction techniques? Very Happy

Anyway, this is a political matter not an army matter and Boris has been wearing camouflage for months.

There is absolutely no need for MPs houses to be capable of broadcast quality images, as quite frankly webcam footage is more than sufficient for the actual needs of parliament. If broadcasters wish to pay to install broadcast kit they are welcome to do so but it shouldn't be coming out of the public purse.

The broadcast kit would be at the Houses of Parliament mostly to combine the feeds etc ...
The video and audio (both ways) can be say from Vodafone or who ever ....

Lindsay Hoyle said in an interview yesterday that the Lords using Microsoft Teams (or Microsoft Office as he called it) would be monitored, and if it proves to be superior they may review and switch over.

It is very sensible to experiment with two systems so that the new system can not have the limitations of either or both the systems ....
it is always useful to contrast and compare ....
But long term neither system today are are likely to be suitable , but a development of other secure video systems used by the government ( plus some broadcast tv kit) May give the solution .

I'm not so sure about that - I think part of the business of Parliament is making it accessible and visible to the public. To maximise engagement, the experience needs to be as good as possible. Broadcast quality equipment should be considered essential to the transparency of Parliament. Of course, as with all things public money a balance should be struck between the right experience at the right price point.

Parliament does not work better just because it is in HD.
