I really loved CNN International around the turn of the century. The branding, and especially theme music, shown in the Rosemary Church clip above, was the best CNN has ever had.

Richard Quest has tested positive for coronavirus - announced at the end of his QMB show. Already a momentous enough edition of the programme given the shocking oil price news.

He posted to his insta too. Yes he’s CV positive with a mild cough, but he’s absolutely fine.

Yeah, for me "peak CNN" was 2004-2008ish. That full hour clip was amazing, when you think about it, surprising how many people are still there, Becky Anderson, Wolf Blitzer, Ben Wedeman etc. Femi Oke was a blast from the past and good to see her doing well on Al Jazeera. I don't know what Charles Hodson is up to these days?

Yes, I quite liked that period too, including the 2006ish rebrand. That was cool looking too - and the music was terrific. I can't say for certain, as I don't know my CNN presentation history very well, but I feel like the 2010s wasn't really a great time for the channel.

My earliest memories of CNN International come from about 1995 when my parents first had a Sky analogue satellite dish installed. "American Edition" with Jonathan Mann has always stuck in my mind for some reason. I think my dad quite liked watching it. From what I can remember, CNN was mostly world news so American Edition was a chance to see some US news. The irony is that now the whole channel is practically American Edition!

He was ordained and became a vicar, leaving CNN in 2012. According to this blog post he would still present occasionally after this point. However he left the church in 2013 due to a misdemeanor of sorts (Google his name for the juicy details). I don't know what came next. There used to be a CNN fan forum which kept tabs on ex-correspondents but it disappeared some time back.

I remember an Aston showing Hodson as a clergyman. I thought that was a mistake, until I read it here. What a waste.

On another note, glad to hear Cuomo’s been given the all clear, for now. I wonder when he’ll next talk to the governor of NY on air. Haha!
