Interestingly, in that clip when Anya Sitaram hands over to WBR with Aaron, she says “that’s all from BBC World News”. When, in fact, the channel was still BBC World (not news) at that time.

Wasn't that because the generic news bulletins on BBC World were titled BBC World News? (i.e. the programme she was presenting was called BBC World News)

Interesting in the directors video from November 1999, The World Today set with the flags and old desk was still there opposite the then newly launched bbc world news set, at this point I don’t think we saw the other side of N9 until Sport Today launched.

Yeah, probably that. But, wasn’t that shot quite messy? I wonder if they had problems framing the headlines for some reason, maybe because the cameras were already swung round to face Aaron for his start up. Either way, I always wondered why that recap shot was as untidy as it was.

If I remember correctly the titles were muddled up it was actually called BBC World from BBC News when it was meant to be the other way round then it got simply called BBC World, I remember it because I remember moaning at the time Very Happy

It was a relief when they started calling themselves BBC World News.

No. World went red on 3rd April 2000. Overnight simulcasts with News 24 did however have the new look.

2010 was when World became lazy with its countdowns. Just a rehash of the News 24 music from 2007 (as good as it was originally) they didn't even bother to add any strings (apart from the motif at the end where the logo forms up) and they didn't even bother to go out and film any new reporter shots with a drone or whatever it's called! They just used shots from reports themselves. Even the News Channel filmed some new shots for their new countdowns (any you saw on World were taken from the NC). They didn't even edit them properly so the swooshes matched up with the music. Presentation was at an all time low for both channels but I think it's the only time I was more impressed with the News Channel countdowns than the ones on World.

Listen again. They are both totally difference pieces of music with World having plenty mote pace, strings, elements. Biggest changes come in at around 30 seconds. I agree, they are not majorly different, but are so much so you can clearly hear which is which.

Snippet of BBC World breakfiller from Friday 16th March 2000 - the latest recording of the flag era on YouTube, I believe, recorded just over two weeks before the flags were ripped up for good.

Shame about the uploader's editing - but the picture quality is good. (The Taiwanese elections referred to in the breakfiller were on the 18th March.)

Also, note the coming up segment: 1800 GMT: generic BBC World News rather than The World Today, which was axed at the end of 1999, although I remember Nici Marx still presenting that slot. The earlier editions of The World Today* lived on until the rebrand, when the BBC relaunched its news provision for South Asia with the launch of the 1530 GMT edition of Asia Today on 3rd April 2000.

*the former Newsdesk and Newshour Asia-Pacific strands that were rebranded at the end of October 1997.

The extended opening of The World Today from 1999, linked to earlier in the thread was the old Newsdesk edition - during the Kosovo crisis this edition was extended to include the daily NATO press conference.

One ending is short and the other is slightly longer.
