Considering they've not scheduled regional news before on some Saturdays due to sporting events I did think given the circumstances they might have skipped it today given they also do on Christmas Day and Boxing Day (possibly New Years Day too).

I'm guessing unlike the BBC they continue at breakfast as it is a separate requirement of the ITV Breakfast licence.

Did the regional weather get dropped after in non-news slots, which I think is during This Morning, 4pm, then lunchtime and late night at weekends.

I think you are going back quite a number of years there when that happened

With all the changes that ITV has undergone in the past decades, is there any reason why there is still a separate breakfast license or is this essentially a case of bureaucratic inertia?

None of the licences have ever been changed though, there is still a London Weekday and London Weekend licence, and two STV licences as well for that matter.

Im surprised too that they bothered with a regional news on Easter Sunday.

There was a late regional weather forecast after the late news last night too. But I think the ones during the week have been dropped at 4pm etc. Not sure about lunchtime on weekends. Seemed to be weather hub presenters as usual at the weekend but on Good Friday the same presenter did both ITV Wales and ITV Westcountry (which can happen often anyway, Bank Holiday or not)

Just watched the regional opt out from Tyne Tees. It was so short - about 3 stories. It seems irresponsible in the current climate to get staff in just for that.

You’ll find the reduced bulletins will protect staff - bulletins will not have a reporter in. The weather is shared between few presenters as per usual. It’s better to still output some form of regional news bulletin than none at all

I disagree. There was absolutely no need to have regional news today for the stories that were covered, and I'm sure the PSB requirements could be lifted in the current circumstances when lives are at risk.

I can agree with the point about it could have been dropped on Easter Sunday but also considering every day is pretty much the same as next to lots of people, what would be the point in doing so just for one day? Public Service Broadcasting is a key worker industry as defined by the government. I think it would be irresponsible to reduce any sort of regional news right now. There’s still an important job to do with regional news, analysis of local Covid-19 statistics and how well social distancing is being observed in the region, to name just two. For example in the Tyne Tees region 13 people have died at one care home alone, I’m not sure it’s had a national news mention and certainly not a significant one if it has been referenced, whereas I should think it’s one of the main focuses on Tyne Tees’ updates.

Agree with this, but on Easter Sunday, it was literally just a one line read about regional statistics and a few other filler reads. Not worth bringing at least three people into the newsroom/studio for.

Actually, (HTV) West and Wales were split last time the licences were renewed, with the former HTV West and Westcountry/TSW areas now combined on one Ofcom Channel 3 licence.

As for breakfast, there's no incentive for ITV to push Ofcom for a change, as ITV plc now gets to control the entire Channel 3 network for 3 hours 25 minutes every day - they wouldn't want to give that up to STV.

Ads during news are nothing new but this BT Advertorial feels very badly placed midway through the Evening News.

That’s something new. A piece by Debbie Edwards in Wuhan has aired on News At Ten which was all edited in the wrong order. I understand that they’re working on skeleton staff, maybe they aired an unfinished cut.

Around 25 minutes in if you watch the edition back.

Strangely a report by Debi Edward on News at Ten just now was edited into the wrong order. So the ending of the report was towards the start and then the rest of the report was played after it with that bit omitted.

Tom had to apologise afterwards that the report didn't play out as it should have.
