Neighbours

It's Neighbours' 35th anniversary today and they've celebrated with a week of 10pm episodes with a darker storyline and lots of backsides.

But there's also a nostalgic theme in the daytime episodes - including the opening of today's, with a recreation of the original theme and an opening shot that echoes episode 171 from 1986 (the first to air on Ten in Australia after Seven cancelled the show). Dipi and Shane Rebecchi recreate Des and Daphne's sprinkler gag from the classic '80s titles, while Des himself looks on, and Dipi repeats the very first line spoken on the show. Karl reads out a wedding speech written by Susan which references the lyrics of the theme song.

Was there any swearing, or is flashing an arse cheek as far as they'll go to justify this going out at 10pm?

There was a sex scene on Monday, then lots of gay sex references on Tuesday, a car explosion on Wednesday. They chilled on Sunday

That's a lot harder to actually sing - trust me, I just tried it out.

They made a re-creation of the theme used on episode 171 (the first episode on ten) but the masters of the originals are still available within the Neighbours library. Why make a re-creation of something they have available, unless it's been in storage since 1986 and they don't know what state it's in?

Or cheaper to use a recreation rather then the original.

and not just that they also had another nod to the past with the water sprinkler which Des and Daphne had in their opening titles back in the day. Lovely to Des back in again, his first stint in 5 years.

And the scene with Des turning up in the car was a nod to the opening scene on the first episode on ten when Clive Gibbons turns up in his van with Max and Danny looking on.

New version of the Neighbours theme song launches tomorrow. Sung Bonnie Anderson who plays Bea in the show.

Is it me or does that theme not fit with the titles? I'm not sure it reminds be of that awful winner version they had a few years ago.

It's definitely not as bad as the 2013 version.
