This Morning might have to resort to DTL or phone ins for certain guests.
That's assuming that you've got the back-office, technical staff and talent available to actually get the programme to air in the first place. I wonder how much longer ITV can maintain their weekday 'live from 06:00 to 14:00' model?
A year ago This Morning would have been quite easy to displace by having a double episode of Jeremy Kyle then something like Real Deal at 11.30. Now it is more exposed, but they do have all the cookery shows they've been airing on Sunday mornings which could fill part of the slot if necessary. And although I don't think more news is necessary they can add bulletins to fill airtime if required, and if ITN can deliver more than the norm on what may become a skeleton staff.
I personally think This Morning should remain on air, I think news while important can lead to fatigue if it's on too much and honestly I think their coverage of the coronavirus has been very good and accessible to viewers.
I really don't think increasing the number of news bulletins is a very good idea. If you have people having to stay at home 'isolating' every day and they have little to do other than watch telly and half of it is just constant updates about how many more people have been killed from the virus, it'll only make people panic more. I think it would be better to try and take people's minds off it and provide some entertainment.
Absolutely. Will say though that aside from this it's a shame that the extension of This Morning didn't allow for the restoration of a news update, even if it's more of an informal two-way chat with the lunchtime host about what is coming up.
Back to the soaps and if they do manage to keep filming but over 70s are quarantined that would leave Corrie especially without some of it's biggest stars, though to be honest I think as it is generally the younger cast who do most of the heavy lifting now in terms of storylines that might not be too much of an issue.
Countdown though a show which is hosted by a 76 year old, so even if they recorded without an audience they'd have to get a guest host in. I know from another post they've been back filming since Rachel gave birth so possible they've largely filmed for the series through to June.

It's not that simple anymore though. They might be providing entertainment but they're also potentially spreading the virus.
How is showing (previously recorded) entertainment programmes rather than an increased amount of (live) news to people who are self-isolating going to 'spread the virus'?

We're talking about This Morning
If we take that attitude then we'd have to scrap every live programme and that includes the news.
I'm surprised that the soaps haven't mentioned coronavirus (I know holby city has). They have in the past inserted other important subjects at the last minute in the past
I wonder what RTÉ will do with this unexpected situation because from the outset they already had to broadcast two of their live shows behind closed doors recently like The Late Late Show & this year's final of Dancing with The Stars which was shown a week early earlier tonight. I am not sure what they will do now if they show any of their other live & pre-recorded shows in their schedules. I don't know what arrangements are in place for shows like Today, Nationwide, Fair City, Winning Streak, Angela Scanlon's new chat show & content from RTÉjr, RTÉ Player, RTÉ Radio & RTÉ Sport. These types of implications for RTÉ are there for the short term.
But if we are talking really serious implications across Ireland with a lockdown scenario being put in place by our government.
A load of things here could turn into a complete disaster.
RTÉ's current situation of talking about their licence fee being replaced with a new broadcasting charge will have to be put on the long finger yet again with approval from the Irish government. Also their own situation with the new homes being built on Montrose by Cairn Homes & their new media centre for their remaining broadcast radio channels could be put on hold as well with considerable delays. And what people who TV Licence currently due with RTÉ. What do RTÉ or AnPost in that instance if they can't get staff in place to process their payments for TV licence holders.
There are implications for TG4 as well because as they are a minority Irish language broadcaster in Ireland funded by RTÉ; they are in a much more vulnerable position with having limited financial resources to broadcast their content to the Irish public. They may have to show more repeats along with some new Irish programming on their schedules. But live & pre-recorded shows already have suffered setbacks in not being aired such as live sports coverage being cancelled until this virus is completely dead. I am not sure what has happened to Glor Tire. I'd say that talent show format for country western acts is not being recorded or not to be recorded soon.
Virgin Media Ireland are the only commercial broadcaster in the state. They have very little in terms of live content except for news & sport. Their reliance on repeats from ITV Studios catalogue will be used more frequently unless some of it is replaced with live news specials whenever their are important announcements coming from the Irish government. But their current business plan for Virgin Media Sport at the moment is having the likelihood of going completely down the toilet because their acquired sports rights to coverage of European football tournaments will be curtailed or completely stopped as this virus is still with us. Their rugby coverage is currently taking a hit in viewership because their rights coverage to the 6 Nations & Champions Cup Rugby are called off for the foreseeable future. This also means big implications for VM Sports Tonight as that show will not be returning any time soon when no sports coverage is available at all for us to watch on the TV. The advertising revenue coming from their unaired sport rights will take a big hit to their balance sheets.
