Might be worth mentioning that I've heard that the BBC might be involved in any possible Internet delivered FTA offerings, using the iPlayer's established switching capabilities, in the circumstances. The matches wouldn't necessarily be BBC produced, just delivered by them. Think Wimbledon multicourt feeds as the type of offering that could be utilised.

On your average weekend, the BBC produce -or at least pay for the OBs for - three PL matches. The clean version makes it as far as the other UK rightsholders, but the only way it makes it live to the world is via PLP at IMG in Stockley Park.

So not only does the BBC pay Lineker big wages but also use licence fee money to pay for three matches which are only broadcast live to other countries, that can’t be right surely.

The BBC produces the feeds for the matches as part of its contract for Match of the Day, they are producing match feeds that they need to produce their programme at the end of the day. If other countries weren’t taking that feed the BBC would still need it. Just think of it as part of the cost for them having the rights.

Shouldn’t it be PLP producing all the matches with broadcasters just taking feeds from them.

Does it make a difference to you?

Yeah it means the licence fee money is not used.

What technically shocking pictures on BBC4 now, and the football from Texas. The standards conversion quality is like going back to the 80s!

Haven't the Italian media called off pretty much every sporting event in the last few days?

Yeah it means the licence fee money is not used.

But the Premier League would probably just increase the BBC fee by how many million it costs to produce these feeds.
