From Monday 15th July 2019

Happy Anniversary, 1, 6 and 10. Relaunched on this day seventeen years ago. And, as pointed out by both TvLive and MediaBoy on Twitter, the programmes launched with a new presenter line-up:

• Anna Ford
• George Alagiah and Sophie Raworth
• Huw Edwards

Feels like only yesterday.......

I was just about to be really annoying and correct you by saying the 1993 relaunch happened in the April but then I realised 17 years ago was actually 2003! How time flies...

Those old new graphics are better then the current graphics, takes up less space on screen Smile

And what exactly are viewers missing out on with the newer graphics?

Well when it’s breaking news it occupies 33% of the screen where’s before it was 25% at best, these graphics are huge because of the Reith font and the line height due to the non capitalised lettering.

I don’t think the flipper/ticker whatever they call it has to be high as it is.

Should have adapted the nine graphics as a base and modified that.

Nonsense.

Not nonsense. They look like Category 1 obit graphics. Just a mistake.

So you're guessing?

Obviously this discounts the (very real) possiblity that it was just the old graphics, and old metadata has been removed from whatever drives the graphics so it appears with the wrong colours, text missing and so on.

This seems far more likely to me than it being an obituary graphics package.

I can confirm they were the 2013-2019 Cat 1 obit straps.

This photo from the 2003 relaunch is interesting, in that everyone on the left half of the photo had either retired or moved on by the end of 2007, and that everyone on the right half has remained in the same position.

Remained in the same position? Very impressive, though they’re bound to have pins and needles by now

They'd be hard pressed to do a photo shoot like that now. The only fixed presenters seem to be Dan and Louise on Breakfast, George on the Six and Huw on the Ten.

And nowadays we’d never have four ladies sitting and four men standing behind them either! How times (and attitudes) have changed........

Cuts are coming...
Quote:
Popular news programmes, which could include BBC Two’s Victoria Derbyshire and Radio 4’s World At One, are likely to bear the brunt in a push for more centralised commissioning.

The BBC News channel will be unaffected.

At last! The cut that happened in 2015 due to budget cuts is now getting axed itself Due to Budget cuts! At least this means they'll just do what they did on General Election Day and January 2nd/3rd and have Newsroom Live from 10:00.

Being reduced to an hour sandwiched between two traditional NC bulletins had to be the beginning of the end.

I'll be sorry to see it go from BBC Two though, where they had something distinctive at least.

Hopefully it'll mean the return to 5 Live for Derbyshire, where mid-mornings really are dire at the moment.
