Gold is now 1080p.

According to the Now TV help page, all Entertainment channels are now 1080p except FOX which is 720p, but Comedy Central is still SD.

Some things are falling together now, it seems that the remaining Sports channels are to be made available in 1080/50 'early next year' possibly in phases. Once that's complete I am expecting NOW TV on BTTV to launch. The blame game continues, but the delay in offering 1080/50 across all Sports services by NOW TV seems to be the smoking gun for the delay in offering the service on BTTV.

So BTTV are to launch a two part NOW TV product on their boxes.
1. Use the NOW TV app on the box and it'll work identically to all other apps and boxes, it'll count as a device as others.
2. IF you want to watch via the BTTV YV EPG and record content the services must be purchased from BT (Prices unknown at present) as agent.
The unanswered question is whether BT EPG customers will have access to the other service as well or whether it'll be wholly separate and independent of the standard NOW TV service.

Now TV have their T&Cs up: https://www.nowtv.com/bt-legals

Looks like you can still register 6 devices - though which devices these are is not entirely apparent.

Hopefully BT can match the 9-month Sport deals usually available for F1 and Football seasons. On paper, BT’s EPG channels should be the very best way of watching Now TV.

If we now have both sets of T&Cs up it’d suggest that any legal issues are resolved and that the only hold is now technical. All sorts of stories circulating about trials in progress now, the number of people participating in them varying considerably when I talk to people. If we don’t have service by 01 Feb 2020 then something really grim must be holding up the technical side of things.

One suggestion that has been made to me is that the YouView boxes were/are extremely sluggish moving from BT Multicast to NOW Unicast and to Freeview, and other combinations thereof. It seems possible at least, and could be a legitimate reason for the delays we’ve seen.

Onwards to service.

Entertainment pass is now 1080p for all live channels except FOX which is 720p. Comedy Central was the last channel to upgrade.

Kids pass is largely 1080p except for Cartoonito and Nicktoons.

Would be good to get Eurosport on there before the Olympics, but Discovery don't seem to have been in a hurry to make the Eurosport Player more widely available.
Turns out nobody had 2020 vision.

Eurosport's model, mainly dependent on Annual subscriptions, doesn't really fit with the Roku model for direct sales. The price differential between the monthly and annual terms isn't big enough to enable Roku's take to gain traction. Too many people will simply use the Roku device as a playback device of an annual sub purchased elsewhere, resulting in minimal 'carrier' income to the Roku 'system' only.
