Isn't Underworld actually shot within the building on the outdoor lot, rather than a set constructed within the studio, so presumably it would have to fit into the existing space?

Interesting. I wonder why they’ve chosen to do that. Wasn’t the original Underworld factory set part of the outdoor lot at Quay Street, before also being moved into the studio there?

I think it was when they moved it into the studio that it gained the mysterious upper floor.

We're seeing the inside of the building on the lot on the ITV3 episodes too, though it's Mike Baldwin and Steve McDonald's t-shirt printing business at that point in time.

It was always inside the building until the siege in 2010 when for practical reasons they moved it into the studio. Upon the move to MediaCity it was housed back inside of the actual building but is now inside of Studio 5. The set now boasts a ceiling to make it more authentic.

Interesting scene yesterday- Denise in Ken's flat over the corner shop looking out of the window overlooking the Kabin, then right after showing her walk past a door next to the window with the kitchen behind it, a kitchen which if it really existed would have to be sticking out of the building and overhanging the street. A bit like the kitchen in the Rovers which would actually be in the middle of Rosamund Street.

The corner shop flat has never fitted up there and still doesn’t.

A great deal of artistic licence is used in the making of soaps. Every room is a tardis.

I’ve reached November 1988 in my binge watch. Mavis and Derek getting married tomorrow. Dereks stag-do at The Rovers was an all-round comedy performance to behold. There are suspicions that Percy Sugden is gay.

Yes. “The Select”, adjacent to “The Snug”, both reached via the main bar area.

As an aside, there were many episodes featuring events taking place in “The Select” where Ernie Bishop would play the piano. He was a fantastic player.

A further aside: Alma Sedgwick has just entered Jim’s Cafe for the first time. You’d think she was the CEO of Wetherspoon’s, the way she’s going on.........love it!

Internally, it actually made more sense having the Select bar there, as being to the front of the hall, living room and kitchen, it squared off the floor plan:

Of course the whole thing makes no sense compared to the length of the frontage. Having said that, a wider fronted Rovers did feature on a very early title sequence (from 25:12 here https://youtu.be/qJqWx3pSXIs), but then the door was in the wrong place on that, and the Rovers was joined onto the Glad Tidings Mission Hall which should have been on the other side of the street.

Anyone would think it's not real!

The street in the original titles was Archie Street in Salford, which had a church at the "Rovers" end, hence the Mission Hall shown next door to a much wider pub.



I think the church is still standing, but Archie Street was demolished in the 70s.
