Are they doing it for every episode across Christmas and new year maybe

We got the 'Brought to you in 2019' credits this evening.

Bit early considering there's still quite a few episodes before the years out.

A bit early for that isn't it?

Today's Drama ones were Christmas Eve and Boxing Day 1991. Would these be correct in the current run or are they digging out random Christmas episodes this week?

Drama are up to Dec 1991 so those were the correct episodes that were due to be played today. That said, the original TX dates on Virgin’s EPG are about two weeks out, stating these were first shown on 10th and 12th Dec 1991, yet the episode synopses are correct! Perhaps this is due to episodes being skipped? Evidently they don’t source the synopses and the TX dates from the same place.

Yes, since they skipped some episodes it's put the dates on the Virgin EPG out, by 2 weeks as you say.

Happened on UK Gold in 2001 where we got the Xmas 1996 episodes just a few days before Christmas (and new Year's day 1997 was shown on Christmas Day itself). Seems to be very rare that Christmas episodes have roughly aligned with actual Christmas on soap repeats down the years.

We don’t get the original TX dates on the freeview EPG. Is this a Virgin thing?

They have run them early in the past usually when they would detract from the ending - eg when Roxy and Ronnie drowned, they ran them on the last episode before that episode.

23rd is very early though, can only assume they want to get them out of the way before the big storylines this year.

And yes hitting Christmas 1991 on Drama almost exactly 28 years later is a nice coincidence. 1986 was reached shortly before Christmas last year, and they reran the famous episodes in peak on Christmas Day itself.

Yes, it's part of the Virgin TIVO EPG.

A bit of foreshadowing on today’s classic Eastenders with Kathy saying she will not disappear to South Africa!

The return of Willmott-Brown just reminds me of how terrible the 2017 return was. Particularly because of the way it abruptly ended due to Sean O'Connor being sacked and John Yorke clearly wanted it over with as quickly as possible. Then he replaced it with an Irish gangster storyline that was even worse. And also ended just as abruptly.

Hadn't checked in on it in a while, but just looked through Drama's repeats of Classic EastEnders and it appears the first time that the second stereo version of the theme was used was on the Christmas Eve 1991 episode.

Here's both versions side-by-side. If anyone can offer a reason why the first version was replaced so soon given how similar they are, I'd love to know.

Looks like Drama will be skipping another episode soon- the 28/7/92 edition, apparently because of "sport footage rights". Why they can't just edit out the footage in question is a mystery.

Something to do with the Olympics of 1992? It would have been taking place then. Perhaps they added in some footage of the games and perhaps those scenes are essential to the plot?
