This first episode is obvious filler, not much interesting happening, nothing to advance any plots, certainly aids the claim this episode was a last minute insertion.

After today it's probably going to be 2 weeks before I see any more classic episodes, so a while till I get to see the crash aftermath.

Can definitely hear the difference between the 1992 and 1993 theme tunes when you've heard them pretty such side by side, like you have on ITV3 today. The strange bit where the music slows down then speeds up again has gone for a start.

I'm watching the whole thing on about a 20 minute delay thanks to the Classic EastEnders crossover with the first episode of Classic Emmerdale.

Granada Plus showed them in either 1999 or 2000.

Daft really, but that old Emmerdale Farm theme brought a tear to the eye at the end like it did back in 1993 afterwards.

The episode stood up well with the effects bar the dead sheep!!

To think I was 19 then and we had regional ITV. Now I'm nearer 50 with nothing like it.

Hey less of the nearer 50. I’m only one year behind you and not 44 till next month 😂

But you are right. Regional ITV back then.

This clears some things up for me. The episode guide on the Emmerdale Farm wiki has the same synopsis for the episodes originally shown on 23rd Dec 1993 and 28th Dec 1993 - the events of 28th Dec episode are not summarised. Also, the person who uploaded the Granada Plus repeat of 23rd Dec episode onto YouTube has erroneously labelled it as 28th Dec and “last episode before the plane crash”. So this is the first I knew that another episode existed set on Christmas Day, which led to my previous confusion about how much time had lapsed between the events of 23rd and 30th, and what date (in Beckindale time) the plane crash occurred. Events did seem to jump from pre-Christmas (23rd) to post-Christmas (30th) but the storylines continued quite naturally. I assume that’s how they originally intended to show it - nothing in the episode from 28th Dec particularly advanced any plots, and it does stand out pretty obviously as a filler. This also explains why New Years Eve and New Years Day aren’t mentioned in the plane crash aftermath episodes: the crash was originally going to occur on 28th Dec with the following episodes depicting 28th through to 30th, whereas we can now assume they depict 30th Dec to 1st Jan 1994. When Frank says to Kim (in the episode we see next Monday, originally shown 6th Jan 1994) “It’s been a hell of a year” this is now the final scene set on
New Years Eve 1993, originally it would have been set on 29th December - so the date change makes his comment pretty apt for New Years Eve!

By the way, did any of Seth and Meg’s children ever appear? I notice that Meg’s gravestone reads “A dear wife and mother”.

Someone called SHOPAHOLIC tried to correct that, but the edit on the 1828a page was reverted, which is why that synopsis ended up on both pages.

Just watched today’s episodes and noticed two important facts about the Plane Crash episode. Mark called Annie Gran for the very first time and Eric said he had just spoken to the Police; when in fact it was days before.

Even yesterday’s second episode which was supposed to be Christmas Eve had a scene which made it look as if Christmas had already been.

Back in 1993 I am pretty sure the plane crash storyline was intended for before Christmas and not just delayed by two nights.

In Wednesday’s second episode, originally shown 23rd December 1993, Alan said that the Dickensian evening would take place “between Christmas and New Year”, which suggests the plane crash was always planned for after Christmas, in both the viewers and the characters timelines.
