Without wanting to take this thread too much down a serious route, here's the fire that occurred during a recording of a Brazilian kids TV show Xuxa Park:

Thankfully no no-one died but its still quite a horrific thing to see, the speed the fire takes hold is incredible

I know of a certain broadcast facility where an engineer warming up some falafel in the microwave set off the fire alarm and forced a high-profile primetime show off air...

That wouldn't happen to be this incident? I think it was revealed afterwards that a microwave was the cause of the alarm going off…

Speaking of this video, it's funny how when they cut into the VT, Matt says "Hopefully we'll see you in a little while" and then right at the end of the segment they do the classic, freezeframe on screen for 3 seconds, then fading to a black screen for an unearthly amount of time before the director's cut straight into the breakdown slide!

Could you imagine what the viewer must of felt like? Must of felt very eerie being left in the dark like that, especially after hearing a fire alarm during a live show, you would of thought "Has there been an actual fire?"

Either that, or that's just me.

At that time The One Show was recorded in the same building as BBC One playout (or so we thought), and the initial discussion on here was whether playout had evacuated too and the announcements were generic pre-recorded ones. However it turned out that though they share a reception, playout and The One Show's studio were in separate buildings with separate fire alarm systems. So I don't know why playout were seemingly caught on the hop - were they having trouble sourcing a filler programme or getting it to play? We can only speculate.

Talking of fires, I'm just going to leave this here...

Unfortunately scheduled programme aside, I've seen this clip a few times before, and is it just me or does that slide look really fake? I'm sure it isn't, it just doesn't look like it's been recorded off VHS for some reason.

The irony of a programme appearing almost straight afterwards with the words "London's Burning"

I don't think it's an accident that the continuity announcer didn't reference the programme that was coming up.

Even so, just the pure irony.

It is one of those glorously PSB things you don't see anymore. I can remember seeing a similar announcement on Southern regarding a return to work at the Ford Transit factory in Southampton (yes, even the poncy South used to have heavy industry)

Did regional BBC ever make those announcements?

This is a mistake, not a breakdown but...

CBBC's Newsround suffered a terrible ending this morning at 7:44/45am
The endboard slide got stuck and the music accompanying it got slurred a lot.

Even in the days of regional TV it seems to me a bit bizarre that they broadcast that message at all.

A primary school with what a few hundred pupils, probably mostly living locally, who’d probably either already know about the fire or wouldn’t cause a major incident if they all turned up tomorrow morning and to be fair they probably did anyway. Also it’d be covered on Granada News after News at Ten and during GMTV anyway.
