CNNI get to put their feet up for a bit as CNN Domestic are doing a Democratic debate tonight so CNNI is simulcasting until 2pm CET tomorrow. 4 hours of CNNUS build-up (starting with The Lead now), two hours of post-debate analysis and rather than the usual international bulletins during the European morning it's another opportunity for viewers to catch the debate in full.
Lucky for CNN that it's not at all delicate over in Syria right now and there aren't "intense" Brexit negotiations taking place.

Yeah because the decision of the president of US doesn't effect other countries. (Hello Kurds....)

My preference would have been show us the debate and the post-debate analysis show, but return to normal programming as soon as possible, rather than running a debate repeat as they are going to do 6am London time. No need for a repeat as there will be plenty of opportunity for those who missed the debate to see highlights in news packages etc.

I did enjoy the guest just now on Your World Today saying that the public won't be hugely interested in all the twists and turns of the Trump impeachment process and it won't get huge ratings. I'm sure that won't stop CNN airing it wall-to-wall on not just CNN Domestic but CNNI (and leading to many an International show being dropped) and many a panel discussion as is CNN's way.

Speaking of Your World Today, was genuinely in tears of laughter during the segment about halloween at the end. Cyril dressed as an evil clown throughout and Isa as what I can only assume was a jedi knight. Perfect light-hearted fare.

One is generally not a fan of such hanky panky on a serious news show, but that was rather well done, CNNI.

Many of them about the state of Cyril's hand.

So yesterday something interesting happened on HLN. CNN was covering the aftermath of impeachment hearings while POTUS was scheduled to speak live and have a presser. So instead of CNN cutting away from one of their programs to carry the speech live, they actually “took over” HLN. By take over I mean they didn’t use HLN talent or graphics, it was a full fledged CNN broadcast with their anchors, correspondents and graphics. You only knew it was HLN as their bug replaced the CNN logo.

I guess CNNI will now take a collective vacation or something since we will be getting 24/7 coverage of these silly Impeachment hearings for who knows how long..... Even the overnight CNNI overnight shift was axed and they wheeled out Poppy Harlow and Jim Sciutto with yet another panel of talking heads. CNN US's desperation for ratings is boundless..... Rolling Eyes

I did enjoy how there were a few sly digs from CNNI presenters and guests in the week or two before the public hearings. Cyril & Isa in particular (who I have to add are just superb as a pairing) seemed to like asking guests if viewers would follow 'every twist and turn' or what the ratings for it would be like with nearly every contributor saying the ratings probably wouldn't be huge.

But you just knew CNN would go into overdrive covering it. How long are the actual hearings each day - the BBC Parliament showings are only on for 4 hours or so and end at 8pm UKtime/3pm ET? You can understand them running live coverage of the hearings themselves and pre-empting the normal shows while that's taking place but the other hours and hours of simulcasts are essentially just Domestic whipping itself up into a frenzy. Wolf must be beside himself at the moment (on a side note has his program ever not started with that Breaking News sting).

I was going to say too that CNNI was actually pretty good in the days before the hearings - and gave a lot of coverage to things like the Bolivia crisis, Hong Kong riots, Australian fires etc
