I'm always amazed how many Christmas made for TV movies there are. I think Hallmark and Lifetime in the US churn out a couple a year and now OWN is getting in on the act. I think a few of them do very strong business once we get closer to the big day.
Not just a couple - Hallmark will have 40 new Christmas movies this year and Lifetime a meagre 28, up from 34 and 18 respectively last year.
Woo, 40 new "movies" all telling the same damn story with varying budgets and qualities of writing, producing and God only knows what. I’m sure last year that they held back until after Halloween, I think they even showed some made for tv Halloween films in the afternoons in October.
As it’s something that Channel 5 and quite a few other channels have done it must be profitable.
