Crazy. I can't think of any other news site that has Buzzfield-style content like this but doesn't have it in its own branded section. That's all it needs, there probably is a sort of place for this type of fluff but it needs to be within a distinct section, not tarnishing the main BBC News brand.

But it is branded - Newsbeat?


It isn't really though, as it will appear on the main news front page and within the main category of news (in this case 'Entertainment' mixed in with all the 'grown up' stories.

Indeed that 'how to avoid spoilers' article I posted was quite prominent on the 'must see' section - it would've been bad enough if it were on Newsbeat because it's dumbed down even for that section but to have it on the main news page is even worse.

Sorry I meant visually branded, like it used to be when the proper Newsbeat site existed. You barely notice the word Newsbeat at the top of the article.

I noticed that the BBC News website is still in the Gill Sans look.. I really wonder why they haven't changed it yet considering the reem look has been on for a good few weeks now. (Or maybe they didn't update the site for Europe)

Woo, Snapchat. Can't wait to follow (or whatever the Snapchat term is) BoJo on it. This might contain sarcasm, even more so when I reveal I don't have a Snapchat account. The concept of filters on the level of Snapchat bemuse me - I think of filter as in "adjusting the red, green and blue intensity of an image", not sticking fake dog ears on my head. We'll probably look at that concept in 20 years time and think 'what the hell were we all on?'.

As for the Burger King story... all company apologies seem to read the same way recently, we're sorry to Mrs Smith about this, this is not indicative of the standards we expect, yada yada, we'll fob you off with a refund/investigation and hope this non-story goes away, etc.

Snapchat is one of those apps where I'm completely baffled. I understand Instagram and the stories feature although I don't use the latter, yet Snapchat really does seem to be one of those generational shifts that I'll never get.
