If anybody's still interested:
https://www.radiotimes.com/news/tv/2019-09-06/demon-headmaster-reboot-cast-actor-series/

Nicholas Gleaves is the new Headmaster.
Terrence Hardiman has a cameo role.
The new series returns October 14th.

As expected it uses the rebooted book characters (I spotted one of them at the library, what with working there and everything, so I borrowed it and had a perusal through it). IMO the one I borrowed didn't have any of the charm or appeal of the original series but YMMV (or maybe I just grew up!) so I don't hold out much hope for the TV series.

Talk of the Demon Headmaster reboot makes me wonder why more isn't made of the archive.

They say kids won't watch anything too old, but I remember the hype in the 90s when the 8.15 from Manchester dusted off Rentaghost for the first time in many years and it seemed to be well received by my generation.

Surely an opportunity could be found/contrived to repeat Maid Marion?

They've put the old episodes on BBC iPlayer but I've heard nothing of this reboot being advertised.

I think its been demonstrated previously that archive stuff just doesn't rate well after the initial interest fades off; Nick Junior used to air Rainbow and various other things but they're stopped doing that now. And of course Challenge have tried various things that didn't rate particularly well and all that's vanished in favour of Armstrong & Walsh.

It wasn't just Rentaghost that was wheeled out again, older Grange Hill from the 1980s used to be shown on CBBC Two Sunday mornings well into the 1990s, and of course the CBBC Channel used to air archive Look & Read episodes (not necessarily by choice!) and a few other pre-widescreen programmes including the original Demon Headmaster series up until I think about 2007 was when that was last seen on the channel.

I guess as a show that at the time was said to work well for adults as well as kids I want to watch it again as an adult and see what I missed.

CBBC is probably the wrong place for that, and I'm not sure which channel would be the right place, but I'm sure there would be an audience for it.

Kids today won't want to watch kids shows from the 90s just like us kids in the 90s didn't want to watch kids shows from the 70s.

In the 90s that's often what was on offer and we didn't know any different.

"And Rentaghost continues tomorrow at 6pm. Up next on BBC Archive, its the Demon Headmaster. And later tonight at 7pm its Brush Strokes".

The best kid shows were from the 50s and 60s. Smile

Isn't Scooby Doo now owned by Warner Bros.? Warner's cartoon shows are usually seen on fellow Warner Media channel Cartoon Network.
