Very Sad News. He was an excellent journalist and broadcaster. I thought at the time that the whole Burgundy tie Queen Mother controversy was ridiculously overblown and I still feel that way now. I felt very sorry for him at how badly he was treated afterwards. His career never recovered from it. May he rest in peace.
Very sad and shocking news. I never really saw him on mainstream bulletins as I was only 11 in 2003 when he stopped doing them but have seen plenty of clips of him online and he was a master of his profession. A style and delivery which many of today's newsreaders could only dream of. I know he didn't really suit News 24 and fumbled his way through weekend afternoons but theres no denying he was a spectacular newsreader.
Two interesting things in that video for me, I could have sworn the present C4 News theme music was used from day 1, which clearly it wasn't, and secondly of course C4 was more or less 'ITV 2' (in a BBC 2 way) back then, so a lengthy plug from Martyn Lewis for that night's NaT

Creamguide did a 'Newsnight vs Channel 4 News' feature a few months back which details that the early C4 News was considered a bit of a disaster, and changes were made very quickly, including ditching the original theme tune. I think that belief re the C4 News theme is quite widespread - shades of those who think Trumpets and Trombones was the original Calendar theme...
I only just heard this now. That is really sad news about Peter Sissons. He was a great newsreader on the BBC. That is the only period of time that I will remember him on screen because I am too young to remember him on ITN & Channel 4 News. May he RIP. He was great talent & asset to the BBC. I will miss him.
