This is very sad news.

Peter Sissons will always be one of the greatest newsreaders of all time.

Unexpected news, a true shock.

Whatever you may have thought about Peter in his later career, he was in his prime an exemplary newsreader and moderator of Question Time.

Peter Sissons was one of the newscasters alongside Leonard Parkin on the News at One on ITV. In 1982, he also became the lead newscaster on Channel 4 News. He co-anchored ITV's General Election coverage in 1983 & 1987.

In 1989, he left ITN and went to the BBC, where he presented Question Time until 1993. He also co-anchored the BBC's General Election coverage in 1992. He was one the main anchors on the Nine O'Clock News, and then later the Ten O'Clock News, until 2003. He then presented weekend afternoons on News 24, and News 24 Sunday during the summer break of Andrew Marr's programme. He retired in 2009.

Didn't think it was 10 years since he retired. Hope there are a few burgundy ties at his funeral.

Sad news. For me growing up Peter Sissons was the news - you knew when he appeared barking the headlines at you that it was time to pay attention.
He may not have been suited to the rolling news era but there's no denying he was a titan of TV news.

Peter Sissons was the inspiration behind Jonathan Pie.

Him and Michael Buerk were the mighties of the Nine O’ Clock News through the 90’s.

Indeed Peter was there through Diana’s death, the Millenium, 9/11 and the death of the Queen Mother.

A sad loss.
