On the other hand I suspect for many they'd rather tape these early shows considering they're over 2 hours long for about 20 minutes or content.

Sorry to take this thread away from Strictly but their main competition this year BGT the Champions isn't even in the top 15, think removing the live element of the show/final hindered it big time as well as the leaking of the winner.

While speaking of Simon Cowell their advert for X Factor Celebrity starts with Simon saying time for something completely different and Dermot says at the end time for something you've never seen before but have ITV & X Factor banished the 2006 X Factor Battle of the Stars to the annals of history. If you don't remember the 2006 version was broadcast over a week of live shows in early summer period and featured the likes of Chris Moyles, Nikki Sanderson, Lucy Benjamin etc but the show was axed in late 2006 in favour of Britain's Got Talent in 2007.

Simon rubbished World Idol, saying he'd never do it again and it made the winners from the other Idol series into losers. And now we have BGT Champions.

Can something not be new or different anymore if there was something done like it once 13 years ago? Arguably this series is different in that it has an audition element and weekly live shows whereas Battle of the Stars was just 1 week of live shows.

Because of course nobody in he TV industry has ever changed their mind before so we must keep bringing these quotes up as if they're some kind of smoking gun.

After the storming success of Love Island it's hardly suprising that other old shows which flopped the first time round are given another shot with little, or no, acknowledgment of their past life.

That's kinda the point I was making. Simon Cowell in particular makes these statements that he later contradicts all the time, there's no point in taking whatever he says as gospel.

One of the problems with BGT The Champions is you can watch pretty much any act you want from the past decade on YouTube at any time you want anyway, rather than having to sit down every Saturday night for 6 weeks

On the other hand, 'X' from the last main series was an absolute work of genius!

Shows why ITV rely so much on the soaps.

Simon Cowell said it was rubbish in late 2006 and would never do it again, it is only because the X Factor is failing that it is him throwing ideas out there and see what sticks, I wouldn't have said anything but Simon comes out with statements which makes himself look stupid years later and X Factor pushing something that has been done before, it may have new lipstick but it will still be nearly the same format from 2006.

Celebrity X Factor IS a different premise to Battle of the Stars. Battle of the Stars featured Celebs from the CBB/I'm A Celeb stable for comedy value whereas Celebrity X Factor appears to be a more serious competition for celebrities that actually can sing.

From what I gather there's even an audition process and the winner gets a record deal.

Celebrity X Factor’s competitors are already known. Fairly decent selection too.
