Somebody else sees the similarities too!

Silk/Escapist, Diary/Reflective, Revelatory/Slinky, Fluffy Dog/Offbeat, Op Art/Thought Provoking and Bold/Giant's Causeway are the ones where I see the links between the old 2 and the curve era.

Whoever wrote the descriptions on the Wikipedia article on the curve idents ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BBC_Two_%27Curve%27_idents ) also seems to think some of them are inspired by the old 2s, but like this video, the comparisons are tenuous at best and I can't see it myself.

I think the curve idents are entirely their own thing - any resemblance to the old idents is purely in the eye of the beholder.

I think it is a given that people are going to make comparisons between the 90's 2's and other sets, so to see some people calling the curves "spiritual successors" only highlights the fact that the curve idents are the best set we've had since 2001.

There is an undoubted connection between Silk and Escapist, Diary and Reflective Neutral. Whether or not the current versions in those two pairings were inspired by their 90s cousins, who knows. However, most of the remaining comparisons in that video - um, no.

Recorded BBC Two’s showing of the first episode of Monty Python last night. I’m not an expert with the technical side of things, but it appeared to be broadcast in a slightly narrower aspect ratio than 4:3, so everyone was unnaturally thin.

I’ve noticed this on YouTube videos of old continuity that has been uploaded, and it’s been explained to me on here that this is because YouTube will have treated a non-square pixel source as though it has square pixels. I don’t know how this would have happened to something actually being broadcast on TV.

Maybe I just have a keen eye for these things but if they’d done a whole repeat run like that it would have annoyed me.

It's the same on the iPlayer version

Which also gives an original airdate of "3rd July 1994"...

Sight mistake on my part - it was shown on Saturday night, not last night. I watched the documentary beforehand so you’d think I’d remember!

Spotted this on Design Week today, certainly a bit late and hardly anything new; apart from the last image.
An upcoming ident named "Punchy"?:

Maybe it is supposed to be a "throwback", as per the modern day.

Thank you The Ident Fan for putting these on You Tube!

Right! We have some answers about who designed these idents. Maverick by Buck Design, Intense & Discovery by Future Deluxe and Illuminating by More & More.

Could it be a new one for news/current affairs? Interesting that the file name says Stripes for the picture.

Wonder what programme it could air before?
