Never thought I'd see a programme title like this, but then nothing really surprises me with Channel 5 these days:

DOCUMENTARY: Paxman: Why Are Our Politicians So Crap?
On: Channel 5
Date: Monday 2nd September 2019 (starting in 1 day)
Time: 21:00 to 22:00 (1 hour long)

Broadcaster and author Jeremy Paxman assesses the current state of British politics, visiting the election battleground of Peterborough and canvassing the views of people on the streets and in the pub. In a series of feisty encounters with high-profile figures including Alastair Campbell, Ann Widdecombe, Roy Hattersley and Rachel Johnson, the former Newsnight presenter also tries to identify the causes behind the apparent breakdown in trust between MPs and the people they were elected to serve.
(New Series, Subtitles)

Director: Victoria James
Starring: Jeremy Paxman, Victoria James, Greg Sanderson

Thanks for the heads-up - sounds pretty good!

C5 have had much worse programme titles. I'd be using stronger words than that to describe the current crop of politicians.

There's a debate afterwards, followed by a Paxman investigation into the Queen and her children.

All seems so topical.

The documentary on the Queen's children is actually a repeat, and surprisingly, it's in the listings with the original programme title!

This was Paxman’s idea and title, he emailed it in to Ben Frow and it was commissioned pretty much straight away.

This is their third political documentary they've done this year as well.

God help us if mob baiting nonsense like this is called a political documentary. I wonder will he look at the murder of Jo Cox. Paxman should buy a mirror.

Sadly C5 is only surviving week to week now on such headline grabbing one off shows - they've got very little in the cupboard to bring back viewers week to week it seems, especially post 9pm.

Not really sure how this is true? The last few months have seen it pretty much draw level, if not race ahead of C4 at 9 on many occasions, though to be fair this may be down to C4's total collapse in ratings over the last year. It's only really 16-34 numbers that have taken a dip since Big Brother left but Frow's said he wants to target an older and more upmarket audience anyway. It's worth watching his Edinburgh session from last week, there's quite a few dramas that sound like they could be pretty decent and should sit well amongst the brands that are shaping the channel now.
bilky asko and Jonwo gave kudos

C4 is in a very similar position post 9pm and at 10pm especially- too many one offs or 2/3 partners and very few returning staples in the schedule. They've actually consistently had at least one half hour sitcom in a post-10pm slot this year, but as they seem to be on random nights they just aren't gaining traction IMO.

Always felt with C5 over the last 10-15 years there has been a conflict between the channel it wants to be and the channel it actually is.
