Here's an interesting bit of presentation from Super Channel, a pan-European English-language cable/satellite channel set up by the ITV companies and Virgin in the 1980s. In its early years, the satellite that distributed Super Channel would undergo periodic eclipses, during which transmissions would cease for several hours.

Here's how the channel would announce a satellite eclipse:

In 1993, the channel was bought by NBC and became known as NBC Super Channel. Here are various IDs, promos, etc., from the NBC era -- as you can see, the programming was a hodgepodge of NBC (non-primetime), CNBC, and European-produced material:

NBC Super Channel later became NBC Europe, but was shut down as a pan-European venture in 1998. It was replaced by the National Geographic Channel on most European cable systems.

Thanks for this. Some truly dire looking programmes in the mix there. God knows who would be watching that promo 20 seconds in thinking: "I must watch that."

The McLaughlin Group promo? Saturday Night Live parodied the show quite effectively:

Obligatory Trish Bertram klaxon for that video; presumably NBC Super Channel was played out or got their promos from LWT?

NBC Super Channel was my first taste of The McLaughlin Group, and I have to say the show was extremely well done. A simple premise, but executed to perfection, with Dr John McLaughlin keeping everybody just about in order asnd usually on their toes too. The show is currently on hiatus, but will be back in September thanks to Maryland Public Television, who are taking over the production and distribution of the show to PBS stations.

And it's still known as The McLaughlin Group even though McLaughlin died in 2016.

By the way, whatever one thinks of the program, its theme, introduced in the 1980s, is a classic:

Flemish TV channel Één is getting a new look just in time for its Autumn schedule on the 2nd September
Here's a sneak peek of what's to come of the new look, designed by Hello Charlie.

The second channel, Canvas is staying the same however.

Also here's a look back at their outgoing curvy writing logo and branding.

The new look has a very stark contrast to the bright, happy colours of their outgoing branding. The new branding looks more mature and slick imo

Interesting that they're going back to a numeral "1" in their logo after so many years, but that promo does suggest that they will still be stylising it as 'één' when written out elsewhere. Hmm.
