Thank goodness for that. I was worried that this could mean a reduction in quality.

Just a few random thoughts:

1) This may also have an impact for Comux's RFP for a new network.

Yes - the Comux network will need to be significantly different I suspect - as the RFP included circuits from all the current studio sites.

Interesting that the different operations seem to contribute to Comux in different ways (15Mbs ASI and 40Mbs J2K?) Plus some are sourced from Red Bee (i.e. Chiswick Park), Encompass and Newman St (I guess they are the stations that don't use Comux for playout - only transmission)?

Not sure if listings are wrong or not updated. But ‘Tyne and Wear TV’ on Sky is showing Cardiff Live back to back between 5pm-8pm; no other local shows are listings. I don’t watch the channel at all but thought it was odd when scrolling through the listings.

As far as I'm aware, there is only one feed on Sky for Local TV Ltd, which is shared with all of their sites. For the local feed, you have to watch on Freeview.

I’m guessing you’re watching on satellite. There’s now just one stream on DSat for all the Made channels which includes content from each of them. They’re still listed on the EPG with names local to where you are, even though you’re getting the exact same stream as people in Bristol, Leeds, Cardiff, etc.

[Edit: London Lite beat me to it]

117 on Sky is effectively simulcast CBS Reality (in stretchyvision) aside from the "local" stuff. Dunno about the Freeview feed.

The Sky channel used to list different local programmes such as
17:00 Merseyside Live
17:30 Cardiff Live
18:00 Yorkshire Live
(and so on...)

now it is just listing Cardiff Live, outside of the CBS hours.

Actually it changes back again on Monday... so its as you were.
Dunno why it keeps being advertised as "must see TV" though.

That's dumb. They need to change the EPG entry to say Local TV instead.

It might be misleading but it’s not dumb. Clearly it’s expected for people to tune in when their local programme is on, so to those viewers it is [Insert City] TV.

Not quite the same but similar to local radio station keeping a local brand despite taking mostly networked programming.

2) Although it cuts costs, nothing much will change. That's Manchester often has reports from Preston (not so much from Carlisle). It may give the reporters more time to be on the street as he says - though my thought is that, no matter where they contribute from, it still needs to be edited and prepared. If only the studio links are done in the regional hub, then it won't save the reporters in the other parts of the region much time. It will save Mr. Cass lots of money on rent.

I thought the issue was that the few people in these offices were having to run the office as well as report. Editing in the field - be it in a specialist vehicle or a laptop in a coffee shop - is well established elsewhere.

And you never know, somebody sitting editing in Costa wearing a station branded jacket may be approached by a member of the public with a story - the same idea as police officers taking their breaks in local cafes rather than going back to the station.

The main difference being a networked radio show wouldn’t be showing a Cardiff local news followed by Bristol, followed by Birmingham’s etc. Etc. The fact that that the channel shows the vary news programmes on rotation then I feel “Local TV” may be less odd for the average viewer. Tyne and Wear TV showing Bristol Live is beyond bizarre.
