Sky 'considering making the ICC World Cup Final FTA'

It would be a nice gesture/good PR move. Although I’d suspect would only have a significant impact if England reach the final.

Any lack of interest in the Cricket World Cup at the moment isn't because the cricket world cup is on Sky, it's because every second of live international and domestic cricket has been on pay-TV for the last 14 years.

Channel 5 showed some Big Bash League in 2017, and the CPL has popped up on Dave at some point - but yes, FTA cricket is not exactly what you'd call plentiful.

IPL was also on ITV4 between 2010-2014, BBC Scotland has shown some Scotland matches, BBC NI has shown some Ireland games on the TV or red button and iplayer in recent years and S4C has shown some Glamorgan T20 matches but the point Brekkie had was that all domestic cricket has been on Sky since 2006 especially since the amazing coverage it had in 2005 on Channel 4 as well as in the press. The BBC have the men/women hundred next year as well as a handful of domestic England T20 matches and all the highlights as well as TMS so in a few years cricket might come into peoples thoughts more like 6 Nations, Wimbledon, Football and Cricket World Cup because it is all live on FTA.

UFEA have launched a new OTT platform for online free to view users.

Quote:
UEFA has officially launched its new OTT streaming platform – a first for a football governing body – which is aimed at giving viewers greater access to live and on-demand video content from a variety of competitions.

The service, branded UEFA.tv, will initially provide football fans with an entertainment platform which will offer original programming based on 60 years of European football archive. It will also become the home of youth, women’s and futsal UEFA competitions by offering them a wide live coverage in relevant markets. Finally, it will also serve to promote all of UEFA competitions by offering behind the scene content, interviews and a wide range of additional content.

All content is behind a free-to-view registration, and supporters will now have the opportunity to watch live UEFA competition matches even when there is no rights-holder in the territory where they are living.

Amazon did very well out of that first midweek, not many match weeks you get two games as big as Man Utd v Spurs and Liverpool v Everton. Less so on Boxing Day but that usually tends to be the case. Some decent games for BT's midweeks too, one of which falls on New Year's Day, which I don't think was anticipated. Not bad for a late, comparitively "cheap" buy in the auction process.

Lots of new things next season - change of kick-off times for the broadcasters, those midweeks with all 20 games for Amazon and 15 out of 20 for BT, and the winter break with all 10 games over 2 weekends broadcast.

Fells like Boxing day is deliberately quite week to appease Sky. The Midweek one is probably more important to Amazon anyway being before Christmas.

Errr that’s not how fixture lists work though - certain things are avoided but there are too many other factors to consider before you got to trying to ‘appease’ one broadcaster or the other.

How do some weeks manage to have all the big teams playing other big teams?

Genuine question: is it tiring going through life as a conspiracy theorist?

It's not impossible that they try to put some big clashes in matchweeks which coincide with a certain rights package, but there are many many other factors at play. This blog post from 2009 gives you an idea of the complexity of the task.

A quick reminder, if you took the 1p Amazon Eurosport offer in the winter, full price will apply from next month, you may want to cancel.

Yes, already done that - though took me quite a while to find the place to do so within Amazon. And really do find outside the Grand Slams and now Olympics that Eurosport really doesn't have a huge amount to offer me at least - and where events are covered elsewhere (usually FTA) they generally cover them better.

Who is the host broadcaster of Queens this year? Think previously it was Eurosport but doesn't look like they're showing it this year so is it Amazon, who have the ATP 500 rights. If so will the BBC be able to show any doubles - aren't they usually restricted to the singles as secnondary rights holders?
