I still don't understand how nobody thought that this looked rather similar to another US broadcaster:

I remember them using the balloons - and thinking how weirdly sedate it looked in the US TV landscape - but wasn't aware of them using circles. Are there examples of it online anywhere?
They were on TV Ark.

I love the strategically placed balloon on the 'Cerne Abbas Giant' ident Cool

Even more interesting how BBC America tried to remake BBC One's caption as much as possible for our American cousins, too.

I like the way they chose a shot of it that shows both the UK and the east coast.... albeit Canada

Here's how the balloon idents were used, I believe, when BBC programmes were broadcast on other channels:

I can't find any clips of the circle idents, but reusing BBC 1's idents in America isn't a recent thing:

Incidently, Lionheart was the BBC's distribution brand in the US. This was it's first logo in 1986....yes 1986!

I believe they used the circle idents for a short period of time in the mid/late 00's - early 10's if that helps narrow the search

I'd just like to say thank you to the people reintroducing videos to this thread instead of "I remember when x happened to y and z got taken off air."

A couple of the posts haven't even been that specific!

No, although ABC and the BBC had close ties at the time. I'm more surprised they used them when they had no BBC branding at all

I declare myself guilty for that.

I'll go back to reuploading videos from YouTube, the way this thread should really be used for.

My apologies.

Anyways, time for a ITV breakdown where after the news and weather has ended and a selection of adverts is shown, the next segment of the junction fails to materialize, which eventually leaves us with an unearthly amount of blackscreen before Meridian's own "holding slide" is shown.

Oddly enough, no announcer jumped in to apologise for the technical problems.

I wonder why that breakdown slide just had the bit before the ident form up where the regional name is on screen but nothing else.

Even has the lines where the regional name and ITV logo would form up. Odd.

Given that its unlikely that our "favourite" breakdowns will have been taped for posterity and uploaded to YouTube decades later, I'm not sure what point you are trying to make here.

Obviously it’s easier to discuss breakdowns and speculate on what may have happened when we can see the video evidence. However, as you imply, many of us will remember breakdowns, mishaps and the like for which there is no video available. If explained in sufficient detail, surely these are also of interest?
