How the hell did you manage to find the buildings?!

I’m into this kinda thing off the back of organisations like Bellingcat. Fascinating work. Anyway, derail over.

Edit: And that’s where NBC’s London office is apparently

I had been using Google Maps all day for my real (but exceedingly dull) day job, looking for passenger transport access points (bus stops) ranging wildly from accurate discriptions or rage inducingly vauge ones. Guess I was on a roll.

I knew straight away it wasn't Sky.
NBC London used to be based in Hammersmith, and at first I thought the tan coloured building directly behind and left, was the office block where what BBC Publications became (Immediate Media) is based - but the distance background would be more built up, as it extends out towards Shepherds Bush.

So by process of elimination, 200 GIR it was, and clicking around quickly found the block of flats off to the west and case solved!

I thought it was Hammersmith too, but then the block of flats gave it away, not a particularly nice area really, the whiteish/grey being the Brunswick Estate off Judd Street/Handel Street. Then again the King's Cross area isn't nice at all, no matter how much glitter they roll it in, you can't polish it!

Nice work, prior knowledge is often something you forget to check! I should have just googled it and I’d have probably found the location :-/

Looks like NBC got another flash cam / DTL in I assume at Greys Inn Road. It’s a simple studio with shelving with books and some knick knacks along and what looks like a backlit LED walk. So how they have the newsroom camera, this and the small studio.

Just being nitpicky, but it's Grays Inn Road, named after Gray's Inn (an Inn of Court), which is named after *checks Wikipedia* the Grey family. I guess someone made the same spelling mistake in the 14th century and it stuck.

The typical bureau camera:

*

What I call the small studio:

*

The new insert / DTL studio. It could be real bookcases behind her or a photo, but the lighting changed from Saturday to Sunday (apologies my iPad won’t crop):

*

Also while going through Imgur, I rediscovered this gem MSNBC either taking the Brexit ticker directly from ITV (don’t know if they’d take the graphic source output and shift it down or copied the template directly into their system):

*

All in all it seems like NBC has expanded their presence at Grays Inn Road (the newsroom and small studio are at least there) despite their acquisition of Sky. For now they appear to still be partners with ITN (they still are taking reports on occasion from them). One of their editors told me it’s more of a resource sharing agreement (such as office spaces). From what I’ve heard here Sky Central (or whatever the campus is called) is a bit out of the way from a more central location at Grays Inn Road.

Thank you! Very interesting.

I noticed that AM Joy was presented this weekend from the NBC London view as seen above with Katty Kay.

It was, I was going to use AM Joy’s captures but the picture quality of the camera seemed less than optimal. Normally it’s sharp.

I could be wrong, but I think I remember ITV using the bookcase area within recorded pieces as a backdrop for science/health stories and possibly for an anonymous guest. The background was a lighter blue.

Would it be possible to post the AM Joy stuff anyway? I’d like to see roughly how a whole show would be contucted from the London studio

Here’s her show’s website. The London stuff wasn’t much just her from that flash camera with guests setup in the other London camera, Paris, NY and DC. Most of the show were guests lined up in boxes on screen with her in a larger box. They kind of kept a similar set up in NY as if she wasn’t there with guests around the table with some of the existing shots they’ve used before continued and one unique one with a camera right where she would normally sit for a brief moment. There were also jib bump shots using the former angled projector screen turned LED wall that are typically used in most shows (including ones coming from the newsroom studio).
