Mind you, the "what BBC/ITV region you live in" drop-down menus for our Profiles right here on TVF also persist in being infuriatingly selective/inconsistent about how up-to-date/stuck-in-the-past they are. (e.g. we still have a Central South option. Also, Westcountry & HTV West should actually now be West Country west/east. And yet we do have STV Central/North options, rather than persisting with calling them Scottish/Grampian) Rolling Eyes Mad Thumbs down

As well as London, rather than Carlton/LWT

I agree there should be some consistency. It should either use the old names (for nostalgia purposes), or the current names, but not a mish-mash of both.

Quick BGT question:

How are they able to create a highlights package of the acts so quickly during a live broadcast?

Presumably the clips are taken from the dress rehearsal.

This is how the Eurovision Song Contest does it

Indeed. And I wholeheartedly favour the latter.

With "nostlagia", where would the line be drawn? Arguably, some names of companies that departed the network at various times up to 1993 have greater "nostalgia" resonance than their replacements (e.g. Thames, rather than Carlton).

And we may all have different preferences as to which old name we'd most favour for a given region. Westward or TSW? Southern or TVS?

(Tyne Tees or Channel 3 North East? Wink Very Happy )

Using the most current identities across the board is the most logical thing to do, surely?

I haven't seen BGT for a couple of years but last time I saw it the "phone number recap" thing had all the audience reaction and original camera cuts and movements and whatever else, so I don't think it comes from the dress rehearsal.

Could possibly be similar to how they do football replays in the sport?

I’ve just realised that BGMT is one of four Talent/Reality spinoff shows that are still on air.

1. It Takes Two

2. Extra Camp

3. More Talent

4. Aftersun

How The Xtra Factor got axed and BGMT didn’t, I’ll never know.

So Ant & Dec get an extra show this year with the announcement tonight of BGT : The Champions. (Not extra when you consider there was no Takeaway)

I imagine BGT : The Champions will go out in August / Sep with XF All Stars in Oct / Nov.

BGMT brings in the ratings, has a successful and unique format that keeps getting better and has had stability in Stephen Mulhern being at the helm for all 13 series.

I was a fan of Xtra Factor however and believe that the last series with Matt & Rylan was one of the strongest, especially having it as a live show after the pre recorded shows. Didn’t they spin it something like ‘the Young X Factor viewers go online for their additional content’?

You've missed You're Fired and Bake Off Extra Slice.

Xtra rated horribly in its final few years, it's no surprise it ended when it did.

They did, however, I've not seen anything about it on the websites or anywhere else for that matter

Noted. I should’ve made it clear I was talking about Talent/Reality show spinoffs.

The 'X' reveal on BGT had to be one of the biggest TV shocks for me ever, and it looked as if Ant and Dec plus the judges were genuinely unaware too!
