Exactly, it should've been caught by someone and not made it on air.

No point getting angry about it 27 years down the line though!

Tomorrow ITV3 are showing the episode(s) that originally went out as an hour long against the first episode of Eldorado. As it was originally made as two separate half hour episodes but combined into an hour at the last minute (to "strangle Eldorado at birth", as they said), I'm wondering if they'll show it as a single hour long episode or as the two episodes they were originally made as. Granada Plus showed them as the separate episodes. The latter would give them an extra advert break, so wouldn't be suprised if they showed it that way just because of that.

As it wasn’t produced as a one-hour episode and was edited together at a late stage for scheduling reasons, I imagine the standard two 30-minute episodes were archived and exported in that format.

Was this effectively an extra episode (two hours of Corrie that week instead of 90 minutes)? Did they drop an episode somewhere to compensate? I assume it has two episode numbers?

According to Corriepedia, there's still two other episodes that week, and no episodes dropped elsewhere, so presumably they made an extra episode somewhere to make up for it. Which means a few weeks at least we've have been getting the episodes that were intended for Friday on Monday, Monday on Wednesday and Wednesday on Friday.

Corriepedia just lists it as being Episode 3406 (the following edition being 3408), though it does have two production codes.

They did the same thing in 1994 (put two episodes together at the last minute) to go up against EastEnders going 3 times a week.

Also, the Virgin EPG isn't taking into account that both of tomorrow's episode (as they're listing it as two) were shown on the same day, so now the dates they're giving for episodes are three episodes (a week) out from the correct dates, after having somehow gone two episodes out after the repeats took a break over the Easter weekend.

Classic Emmerdale's dates have also been one episode out since July 1991 as well.

The synopses for both shows have always been for the right episodes though even though the dates given for them aren't.

It was the same with EastEnders. Evidently their information for the synopses and the original TX dates are not taken from the same source, as they make no effort to check these marry up.

Going back to present day, the last few weeks must be some of the worst for many years. Not finding one of the current storylines interesting and some of the newer characters such as Tim’s Dad, Gemma’s brother and Emma are unbelievably poor.

Emma seems rather popular actually with fans - she's got a touch of the Raquels about her.

But otherwise agree - the last month or two has been abysmal. Heart attacks played for comedy, a storyline about dog poo, a storyline about broad beans, anything (and there have been far too many things) involving Gemma and those cringe-inducing scenes with Mary and that urn. The "comedy" has just gone utterly down the slapstick route and the drama just isn't good enough and judging by the falling viewing figures viewers are voting with their remotes.
And we haven't even had...
Gemma being pregnant with quadruplets yet.

And having made a big deal about not doing their stunt in BGT week because that's when viewers expect it they've now found themselves with a very weak week to run alongside BGT where the reveal of the culprit behind the factory roof collapsing is just something nobody cares about.

I wish they would stop doing these special 'BGT' weeks, I know the show has to go out at 9pm over 5 days to fit in with the schedule for that week but they should just be the usual episodes IMO rather than making them 'special' episodes.

2019 Corrie has not been the best the last few months I agree. Im enjoying the ITV3 episodes far far more.

Another sign ITV3 are just taking the G+ edits and pasting the Granada endcap over the top- Granada introduced a new endcap in April 1992, but many of the recent ITV3 episodes since then are still using the 1990 endcap, as if ITV3 haven't updated the one they're using to cover up the GSB one.

I've just got round to watching my recording of the 19th June 1992 episode (I'm a bit behind), that episode is on the Network DVD, and on there it has the 1992 endcap and it fades up, whereas the ITV3 showing had a hard cut to the 1990 endcap. I haven't gone to the effort of comparing the two episodes to see if any material was cut from the ITV3 showing, but it's likely. They seem to be showing as many G+ edits as not recently (Certianly Corripedia's noted a few recent episode where the ITV3 showings had the same cut as the G+ ones), it will be a good thing once they reach Feb/March 94 and they aren't around any more.

A shame as they seemed to be good as avoiding G+ edits for a while, we had a few during the first few months of the ITV3 run, then we didn't have any for nearly 2 year's worth of episodes (we didn't have one for most of 1988 and the entirety of 1989), then they reappeared and started getting more frequent.

As to why ITV3 would go to the effort of covering up the Granada Plus endcaps, I presume it's both the mention of the now defunct Granada Sky Broadcasting, as well as their website address at the bottom, which now links to one of those dodgy typosquatting pages.

At least they’re replacing it with a Granada endboard of similar vintage and not a modern day one like the ITV of the mid-00s would have done.
