How could you watch all those regions?
I lived on the top of a hill and had a powerful wideband aerial. Just lucky I guess. Granada was not clear but the others were pretty much perfect on some nights.
You were spoilt for choice then! Which TV region/transmitter area did you “officially” live in? I vaguely remember you mentioning Emley or Bilsdale in previous posts.
I’ve heard there are parts of the Dales that are on the fringe areas of TTT, YTV, Granada and Border (an area near Hawes and Kirkby Stephen I think) but how watchable they are/were I’m not sure.
Edited to add, was the TVT still regionalised at that point? If so those interested might be able to zoom in on the end pack shot and determine which region? Just a thought.
I can’t make anything out, but I doubt it would help if we could - the promos usually showed a cover with no regional branding, and any random region’s copy for the quick “flick through the pages” that they often used. The same version of these TVT ads/promos went out in every region (though some, notably LWT, sometimes used a “slide and VO” style ad using their region’s own copy).
You have to wonder why they even bothered with the TVT promo at all really. C4 clearly put up that menu so some ITV companies didn't have to bother with the break at all.
I do wonder whether that TVT Promo was actually played out by C4, and not inserted by the ITV company ?
That would explain the cross fade, and it was a promo (not an ad) so within C4's remit ?
Very very unlikely to have come from C4, never saw it in all my years in the local C4 tx suite - always a clean sustaining feed.
I agree that it’s very unlikely the TVT ad is on the C4 feed. However, I did see something odd on C4 in Yorkshire in 1983. Their ad break appeared to finish, and they then cut to the last few seconds of a TVT ad with no sound and distorted colour. It’s possible this was on the sustaining feed, and the break was timed incorrectly, but why the loss of colour and/or sound? More likely YTV’s equipment playing up somehow - nothing from the C4 feed seemed to be missing though (as it would have done had YTV cut to the wrong source when they intended to rejoin C4). I idly wondered at the time if this was the end of a break from another region - but I can’t imagine how that would inadvertently go to Kirkstall Road or Charlotte Street.
I hope all those quotes worked correctly!
