A thought: I know this is TV Forum, but after the extensive discussion in the recent thread on Global Radio's programming changes, I wonder if the Mass Media & Tech forum could be extended to include radio discussion? Activity in the Birdsong forum on Metropol has sadly died off, and the only other forum I know of that discusses UK radio is unfortunately Digital Spy. Given the toxic nature of both that and the now defunct Media UK forum however, I can completely understand why you wouldn't want to invite it over to here.

This has occurred to me too on a few instances in recent times and I do agree with Phil - every now and then radio talk creeps in and the level of discussion is usually pretty good (I suppose you can't hear if the Radio 2 newsreader is wearing a black tie!).

Exactly my thoughts - when there's a good topic the level of conversation on here is always high quality and the best of any forum I visit.

I'd rather look at revitalising Birdsong. Actually I'd rather look at getting the links between Metro and TVF better advertised full stop, the amount of people using rubbish upload services in requests for example where we then lose the stuff after 30 days is a waste given metro offers unlimited space.

I agree, replying in the Requests forum should probably bring up a banner reminding you to use Metropol's upload service, like when posting in The Newsroom reminds you to start a new thread for major topics.

I wonder if the problem with Metropol is that at some point the people who were regular posters on both places naturally stopped posting or no longer post as often, but the new regulars here didn't start posting at Metro. I think that's partly down to the fact that new posts in The Lounge are no longer shown on the TVF homepage - it used to be treated as equal to the rest of the forums, now it's just the Metropol logo with no explanation as to what it is. Maybe bringing that back for both The Lounge and Birdsong would encourage people on TVF to look at them. But I appreciate that's not entirely a decision on Metropol's part.

In an ideal world one login for TV Forum = one login for Metropol (so you wouldn't have to join on Metropol as a new user just to get access to the Upload area, you could just use your TV Forum details), but appreciate that while its technically possible it'd be a pain to administer.

We used to have the ability to sign up for both at the same time (TVF > MP) but the phpBB changed the code and it broke. One of the joys of running two separate systems, and the upload service being completely custom.

Yep, the login was done basically with a bit of a dodgy backdoor hack so wasn't particularly suited when phpBB received updates. I'm not sure phpBB has an option to allow 3rd party registrations (why would they I guess!).

There's no plans to extend the range of a forum to include radio specifically - not sure I'd want to encourage some of those members here! But there's certainly no restriction on the odd topic popping up in the main forum, and obviously sometimes a TV topic will diverge a bit.

yup, I think the only way it would ever work neatly would be if both sites used the same software. which, in reality, would mean Metro moving to the TVF platform. Although perhaps we'd get less Russian viagra spam members by using a proprietary system 😂
