The start of the RTÉ News at Six One had 2 backdrops littered with images of the fire at Notre Dame which came after the titles.

No. Lyse doesn’t anchor television news from the studio any more, although occasionally does on BBC World Service Radio.

Alas........

Someone once told me “confining Lyse to the studio is like caging a free bird”.

I think she prefers rooftops all over the world.

I didn't catch any of CNN's coverage, but to be fair Chris specialises in political interviews rather than rolling coverage of breaking news.

Apologies. Didn’t realize it was a big deal. It was presented as the opening minutes of a BBC show, so I didn’t know any better.

It’s not a show, it’s a programme. I’m with MarkyMark on this one.

Show = entertainment
Programme = education/information

And to correct your butchering of the great man’s words...

The terminology is an interesting one, I remember in the 80s my dad commenting when Sue Lawley prefaced the tease after the headlines recap during the Six with "later on the show".

I remember sometimes Natasha Kaplinsky used to say "also on tonight's show" during the headlines intro when she used to do the Six back in the day. Drove me nuts.

Pretty much everything over here is described as a show.

There have been some dull discussions on this site over the years but this takes the biscuit.
