I think he's referring to some of the refreshed 2012 NR graphics he was involved in for the move to Salford, as evidenced by the Tweet.
But if that's the third, what's the second? Seven years is 2012, but at the time of the 2014 rebrand, the last one had been in 2008, before his time.

Speaking of Newsround, it is 47 today. The close was John Craven-era styled, with the flashy text saying Thursday going up and down. Screen cap coming shortly.
And in regards to the rebrand, it is the bottom left one:

For those asking, new look is live on digital platforms & launching on TV later this year.

Brilliant to collaborate with @bbcuxd’s @callumtweeters on a fresh look bringing a cohesive look across platforms and devices #broadcastdesign #identity #branding #uxdesign #graphicdesign pic.twitter.com/sxukVaf7UV

That looks good. I wonder if this is a sneak peek at the rebrand later in the year. Back to basics?

I doubt it, the "newsround at 47" in the corner gives away why they're doing it. Though 47 is a very odd birthday to celebrate.

Maybe they're not optimistic of making it to 50. The current presenters were on Radio 2 a few weeks ago and literally said that, while today's kids consume newsround online and through social media, barely anyone watches the actual TV show anymore.

But the same could be said about Blue Peter, everything (near enough) Blue Peter does or has done you can also find online, yet no sign of that being dropped.
I suppose Newsround could be restyled towards a sort of drop-in session throughout the afternoon after 3pm, similar to like 60 Seconds.

Newsround does get shown in primary schools (or at least it did a couple of years ago).

There's another issue for linear CBBC and indeed Cbeebies. Virtually all the big series are now in 'extended availability box set format' on the iPlayer from the day that episode one launches on air. A major dis-incentive surely to watching off air.

Not so much of an issue for CBeebies as there's still the incentive of parents having the channel on to keep the kids happy while they go and do more important stuff...... like making a cup of tea
Of course, the non linear Cbeebies content is useful too, but apart from news it's the channel where the linear offering is probably more important than the on demand

One of Newsrounds problems is its afternoon transmission time of 4.20 when probably most of its viewers are not home from school.
With Blue Peter, in a recent interview the former Editor Ewan Vinnicombe stated that viewers watching it live has risen by 25% in the last year. www.mediamasters.fm/ewan-vinnicombe/
