It would seem stv adverts failed or itv forgot to inform stv about the adverts.

Actually STV went straight from the horse racing to tipping point without adverts.
Then after the STV ident it went straight to a blank itv caption card with no mention of the breakdown on the card.
Then STV went to there fault caption card and it stayed like that for over 4 minutes with no announcer saying sorry for the break in programmes at all.
Then STV sorted out the problems and showed tipping point like normal.
I do have video of it and I will upload it soon
That's TV and Local Television Ltd are the Carlton and Granada of local tv

Do STV have live CAs during the day? If so, four minutes seems a very long period of time for there to be a caption on screen with no verbal apology.

I assume there were no issues on ITV or UTV, so the fault was somehow linked to the feed going into Glasgow or an internal problem at STV. What was that ITV slide they cut to? AFAIK there’s normally nothing like that on the “clean” feed, and there was no mention of Chiswick or another switching centre on that caption.

You assume correctly there were no issues on UTV. As far as I'm aware the racing was slightly running over, so the folk at STV probably thought it was gonna be straight out of the racing then into the ident for Tipping Point....but then realised the network went to the adverts as planned so in a flap stuck up the Oops caption for 4 minutes till Network started to play Tipping Point.

If required live CA can be found from someone within the building, I have seen this happen.. however STV needs a bit of warning.

Live CA appears around 5pm - Middnight and then pre-records everything for the next day.
Is the next post dreaded?

That’s possible - I haven’t seen the full breakdown so I didn’t know that STV joined Tipping Point at the start and didn’t crash in. However, omitting an ad break is almost unheard of (ITV would have to schedule the break somewhere or lose big bucks from the advertisers) and the normal practice is to show the break as soon as possible after it was meant to be shown. So STV “assuming” there was to be no break seems an odd assumption to make. They too would have to schedule the postponed ad-break - and I assume they now have a half a dozen ads that weren’t shown and will need to slot them in elsewhere and/or lose some revenue.

It does happen. Not sure if it's happened much recently, but there was a period where it was quite common for there to be no advert break immediately before News at Ten.
