The start of the nightmare - Kevin becomes a Teenager courtesy of Harry Enfield:
Surprisingly close to reality, Kevin was. These days he'd probably want an S10 with a whopping data allowance.

Actually he had a different dad after the one in the clip and that was before the movie came along. I think it was only after the 1994 reincarnation of Harry Enfield & Chums that Kevin had the same mum, probably even so far as the movie as well.
In fact IMDB suggests it's the same actor who plays Kevin's dad in the movie who played his school teacher in the Harry Enfield & Chums TV series.

That’s interesting. Bob said Mike was in the studios of NET, and I assume the interview was live - so what were Tyne Tees viewers seeing while it took place? Wouldn’t Mike have been busy actually presenting at the time, or was it cleverly timed so that stories were running on NET with another presenter reading the links?
Two regional legends Bob Warman and Mike Neville tussling on Central News in 2002 as to the qualities of Birmingham and Newcastle in scope to win the bid for European Capital of Culture for 2008.

Indeed neither city won in the end and it went to Liverpool.

I have a very vague memory of Gordon Burns and Nick Owen doing something very similar.

I expect the interview was live
The announcement over the titles is a bit vague, I'm presuming what ever hard fact they used to announce was no longer true so they had to come up with something vague instead.

It's 18 years ago tomorrow since this first hit our screens. Not YouTube, but Dailymotion... full episodes from the first reboot of Crossroads. The last two from 2001, and the first two from 2002.
From the the period that it started to actually get really good. Such a waste that it wasn't given more time before the ill-fated second reboot.
Weird to think it's been off screen three years longer than the gap between the original run and the two revivals.

I would say that was pre-recorded, the way Bob picks up off the back just doesn't look like it's live to me. I also don't think it was NET's main studio, probably a CSO cupboard with a locked off camera.

Although I could never describe myself as a fan or regular viewer, the 2001 series of Crossroads was for the most part a pretty decent soap - it did not attempt to merely copy the original, but still included enough nods to the past and a handful of characters from the original series. When it returned in 2002 the programme was barely recognisable, and you get the impression someone somewhere really wanted it to fail so ITV could close the door on Crossroads/Lenton Lane altogether.
