I'm taking a punt and guessing these are the cobblestones of Rose St, Edinburgh?

Definitely loving the new ident set which comes across as well executed and looks quite classy. Although it seems very jarring against the more garish graphics used elsewhere. I can see what they were going for, but perhaps that'll end up being toned down a bit for some 'technical reason' as happened with those BBC Two idents shortly after launch. Wink

Video of the fourth ident as aired in the 10.30 junction for anyone who missed it too. Presumably we're going to have to wait until tomorrow to see any more now.

Why is the channel showing most of BBC Two output in the daytimes? I thought Scotland still has access to BBC Two Network?

Oh twitter really is ripping bbc scotland to shreds.

There's a trend in complaints about it being "bbc glasgow" and that it portrays the usual scottish stereotype.

But there's also tones of praise on the launch itself with Chvrches and the orchestra.

I can see where they are coming from. Perhaps too much comedy on launch night?

Well you can always rely on Twitter for rational opinion and reasoned debate.

Well that's very true Wink

Well, I know I am not part of the target audience - English Scotophile - but not bad at all.

I'm on the record as really not liking the BBC Reith font and its usage on BBC Scotland has not changed that. It looks like a slightly modified version of the detestable Verdana to me, but that's by the by.

Idents - quite nice and the voice of the continuity announcer tonight was the perfect example of what makes Scottish accents (I know there are many), particularly softer Scottish ones, so beautiful and musical.

I enjoyed the theatre show, the Asian wedding show was very watchable, and I personally didn't mind the vox pops-based "People's News". I have not watched Still Game yet because it is my wife's and my favourite sitcom and we're both knackered so we want to watch it when we're a little fresher.

I completely understand why many Scots were pissed off at the BBC during IndyRef Episode 1 and I don't know whether this will be enough to buy the BBC back some political and cultural capital in the country. But, for what it's worth, I would love a BBC Geordie channel but I don't think one is forthcoming.

The sets remind me very much of the 2008 SKY rebrand, especially Sky 2’s liquid form. I know most of you hate it being mentioned in every thread but I have to say, their idea for idents would’ve been a much better concept for Oneness to work well - a glacier BBC one ‘o’ being dotted around different parts of the UK being activated with colour (red!) by some other element in the ident would’ve represented the idea of community and national identity a lot better just like it is here with the BBC Scotland idents.

A massive bit of speculation but if the new BBC News graphics are anything like that used on the preview of the Nine just now I'll be happy - I don't like the currently use of the thin red sliding bars and text that News currently use on their social media videos, and whilst the thin coloured bars carried over from the very brief peek it all animated much nicer, and with a nice mix of serif and sans serif Reith!

Thought they looked amazing! Hope they’re heading BBC News’s way very soon!!

Because they still need to show all the other Scottish programmes that used to be on Two Scotland such as Politics Scotland and sport coverage.

I suppose they think that opening up the channel at different times every day isn't a great idea. Even worse opening it for an hour and then closing it again like it's the 80s. It also gives them the promotional time of Two Scotland that they'd otherwise lose

Hold on! Haven't we been here before with BBC 2W in Wales? That didn't last too long did it.

Why not kill off BBC 2 ?

That's not really the answer. While its nice BBC Scotland has its own channel, it would've been a better move to have BBC One opt outs for some of Scottish regions, like the English regions do. Although how financially viable that would be, I don't know.

The nations don’t have any city/county based BBC local radio either ( R Foyle is about the closest you get to that). The charter I think excluded the local/regional model that England has, I don’t know how many regulatory hoops the Beeb would have to jump through.

If as rumoured BBC English regional TV is to move to a centralised production model, that might make some form of regional TV in the nations viable (technically and practically) but the Beeb are still skint financially

Radio Shetland and Radio Orkney are still just about around too with opt outs from Radio Scotland.
