Here are captures of that segment. As much as I love the newsroom backdrop, this Taggeschau-style approach works very well for the formal nature of the Nine.

Why can't they just play it out like this, instead of chopping it into two bits with the headlines jammed in the middle.

I do like it, but wonder what all that weirdness over continental Europe is in the end shot.

I don't think anyone gets that or the gigantic jellyfish floating over the globe....

Interestingly, they do exactly that on the One, which returned after the relaunch on Tuesday. Not sure why it’s different on Six One and the Nine.

I assumed the "jellyfish" were camera lenses...and the animating poles were an abstract representation of the ever-changing nature of news. Just a guess...and I could be completely wrong.

I really like the new look. The studio looks fantastic - and compares very favourably with the main UK broadcasters. Fantastic job.

Hopefully they can spend a bit on decent HD cameras for their location cameramen. The quality of some of the video footage is pretty awful.

It’s far more explainable (and is essentially a globe form up) than the brown titles from the mid-2000s which were completely inexplainable (the fact that they had chosen chocolate brown as their base colour was already a pretty bizarre choice, but the titles themselves were truly bizarre.

I think I managed to make out an egg in the middle of it, but the rest I'd love to hear the design concept behind.

For years, RTE News kept it simple and generally used globe/landmass imagery in their branding. This one was a significant departure and certainly one of the most abstract that I can recall on any channel. I'm sure the question "what on earth is that" was uttered in many a household across the country. But I admired RTE Graphic Design for it. It was quite daring. The globe has been done to death - it was nice to see something different. My understanding was that this was an interpretation of the concept of "the news machine". I didn't mind the colour scheme in the titles or the set - the execution for lower-thirds though, I didn't like so much.

That whole look really was tragic. The bizarre watch alarm beep beep near the beginning of the titles stood out for me. And the hazy brown awfulness of the studio background. Hideous.

The main evening news bulletin on RTÉ One tonight had two logos displayed. One on the desk & one on the titles.

The Nine O'Clock News branding is displayed on the desk. A big RTÉ News logo was displayed in the titles.
