Its pretty impressive what they high school teenagers were able to accomplish. They posted a video of their gallery and behind the cameras as they recorded one of their newscasts for their high school in Orange County NJ. I have to say its quite good.

A setup that puts That's TV to shame.

At the risk of taking this in a political direction: In some of them.

The closest we have over here in Britian is College Radio. It would be nice to have College TV Channels soon. Would be better than That's TV or Channel 5

I believe that channel and it’s equipment is also responsible for local government events and news. So it got upgraded.

My high school had a class that did some of the stuff and eventually towards the end of my time there did morning announcements that way. However the set was a desk donated by the local TV station, and the equipment was about 10 years old (probably when the addition where the area was built). You could see the “gallery” from the hallway, it was a one or two M/E mixer, three simple broadcast cameras and maybe five monitors along with a simple audio board. I had a lot of health issues* towards the end of my high school career (I had to do distance education over the phone) so I never saw it in use.

Now adays elementary schools are doing their own morning announcements broadcasts with either the librarian/media specialist or the computer tech teacher doing it. There have been features on the news about it and it shows the setup where they use one or two simple camcorders that are connected to a desktop computer. The computer looked like it runs software for live-streaming allowing them to switch cameras, do simple graphics/chromakeying and outputs a stream. I’m not sure how it’s distributed but I think it’s through the schools IPTV network.

*I have since found out they did an environmental report on my high school when they were deciding to renovate or rebuild the new school. The school had asbestos everywhere along with other things that make you sick.

In the uk we have a very professional network of university hobby tv ( I.e the students aren't studying media but English history medicine etc or forthe techies STEM subjects )

Their output is far better than local tv ..... www.nasta.tv
