Whereas I think that, on the mobile site at least, when you're whizzing around many different pages as one tends to do on a forum, it takes at least one tap away which is a good thing.

I agree they can be ugly and take up space – but that's not inherently a feature of sticky headers, more badly designed ones.

I guess this is a difference in how I navigate the forum. I have the multiview page on my bookmarks bar/main bookmarks screen on phone, so it only takes me one click/two taps to get back to where I started, but to be fair others won’t have it in such a prominent place.

How do I found threads from 2002 on this forum?

Change the URL in the browser address bar.
https://www.tvforum.co.uk/tvhome/page-659 will as I write show threads from June 2002 in the TV Home forum but there appears to be a six month gap between June 2002 and January 2003.

I seem to remember there was an issue around that time, maybe data loss. I used to have a "registered before 2003" registration date.

Probably lost alongside the forums sense of humour.

Seems even a bit of flippancy clearly taken in the manner it was intended by most that read it is too hot to handle now.

What's this supposed to link to? Thread URLs don't follow that format.

You're right, Neil. I remember there being a crash in January 2003 and everything was lost from then back to the last backup ISTR. It was so bad that everyone had to re-register their accounts and start from scratch with their post counts.

Tonight’s Brexit stuff triggered a thought – we used to have that nice live thread function several years ago, used for Eurovision. Could you see that being used again, Asa, and would you consider it for an election or might it get out of hand?

Can someone explain this for me, please? I don't think I was around when this was a thing.

It was essentially a hybrid of a chatroom and thread. The "reply" box was at the top of the page (I think) and new posts would automatically appear at the top of the page in real time. After the "live" element of the thread had ended, it would revert to a normal thread for further comments and looking back on what was said. It has been used for elections and Eurovision nights in the past.
