Didn't they have regional forecasts then (even pre-recorded)? Considering how they've remained in legacy slots elsewhere I'm surprised they'd not air them on the days there is no regional news.

Definitely saw a local weather forecast pop up at some point over Christmas on ITV independent of a local news bulletin. I know there’s still one during This Morning and at some point in the afternoon (3pm maybe?) but assumed this wouldn’t be the case during the festive period?

Probably after the late national news or at lunchtime on one of the weekend days where there aren’t any regional news bulletins

Becky Mantin weather report after the ITV Evening News at 6.55pm had already been posted on the ITV news website at 2.07pm.

Seems mighty early to pre-record the evening weather report.

Well if it's not live makes more sense to do it ten minutes after the lunchtime forecast than three hours later.

I’ve always suspected they record the evening and late forecasts quite a while before they air, as of course on ITV it’s only one presenter all day. I suppose if the forecast is right they can say what the weather has been like earlier in the evening, in the middle of the afternoon. And with it being the national forecast, even if it’s a bit wrong, it’ll be vague enough to have been right somewhere.

The same will apply to weekend regional forecasts on the BBC which I expect are done no later than lunchtime, and the GMB regional forecasts which will be done a good 14 hours earlier.

They had the local weather after the late news on NYE - which was technically 1st January - about 12.10am.

Lucy Verasamy also did the local weather for Wales and Westcountry on 2nd January - not sure if any other regions also. Im sure the newsreader used to voice the weather themselves on the GMB bulletins in the past when no regional news/weather the day before. I think the only time it happens is the day after Boxing Day and day after New Years Day.

I wonder why they continue with the regional weather in the mid morning and mid afternoon slots where there used to be bulletins. I also never understood why they got rid of the mid morning regional update, there is a big gap between GMB last bulletin around 8.15am and the lunchtime news.

They got retained because they generate income from the sponsorship.

Bonkers if you ask me. But Ofcom allowed ITV to reduce the overall amounts of regional news minutes. Wesley Smith used to have some superb lines on the mid morning bulletins...For instance ''In a few moments we return to Fern and Philip on the South Bank as This Morning continues.''

Not being rude. But how is that a superb line?
That’s just a tv presenter ad-libbing. Nothing fantastic about it.

Presumably as those bulletins are sponsored, they've stayed in the schedule.

Mel Coles is doing the national weather forecasts tonight, I can't say I remember that happening before.
