Which begs the question -- if we have had to suffer this much hype over a sofa, how unbearable it is going to be when the big move from PM to Mailbox takes place?

Incidentally, could the BBC not have bought the ATV Center, B1 2JP at a knock down price? :+)

How would Midlands viewers feel if the Oxford and Ridge Hill transmitters were combined into a single South Midlands service area and split off as a separate region, instead of the current illogical Oxford opt out of BBC South, and the limited coverage given to the extreme south west of the Midlands region?

well it's still vacant and it would have made sense, IMO, for central and bbc mids to move into the same building - and with doctors, citv and other shows (and the probable close of lenton lane in notts) i think they could have filled the studios effectively.

the mailbox, on reflection, seems a *little* bit of a blunder, expensive, small, the entire shopping complex is not as popular as first expected etc etc. but as we know, the decision to move there was not taken by the staff at bbc mids ...

i think that is the solution we have all pretty much suggested on here before - making the bbc mirror the already established and workable subregions of central news west and central news south.

incidentally - the name captions and live/location straps returned to the old red-style this lunchtime - all the new ones needed was a tweak, but anyway.

oh and jasper carrot is LIVE on the 6.30 show ... on the sofa i wonder Confused anyway, be there or be square!

...and someone wasn't thinking about the clock either:

Has the clock always been on in Midlands Breakfast? Look North (NE&C) never includes it.

Jasper's after details of some of his old routines(one's that don't have a visual or audio recording), because his next appearences on stage, I think people can request a routine.

One he's after, is called 'The Wedding', so if you have a bootleg, get in touch with him.

(I think he may be on with Doolan tomorrow, but he may not, because he did say he was gonna speak to Ed, to see if he had anything himself.
(Dedicated Doolan/Carrott fans should already know about 'Radio Acocks Green' from the mid 70's !)

Forgot to mention, last Sunday's 'Other Side Of' , was Franksy of WM.

Repeat date not known, & the Sunday Mercury has revamped it's radio listings & got rid of the actual prog listings !

Caught MT today, Westy, as I knew the Carrot was on.

I'm still not sure if he was hoping for bootleg recordings of "The Wedding", or trying for votes in the "best Midlander" competition.

Wouldn't have thought even HE would expect to win the latter, up against Will of Stratford!

Really like this new look Midlands Today, very fresh and spacious compared to the very tight, enclosed sets some of the other regions use. Love the gaps in the sofa, really clever, and really like the surrounds on the plasmas, very chunky looking.

Nice backdrop too and overall, a wonderfully inviting and relaxed atmosphere, even when Ms. K. Alexander, headmistress of Pebble Mill Acadamy is on duty! Laughing

A question to fellow midlanders; what ever happened to Sue Beardsmore?

Did she leave and did I miss it?

Or did she leave at the end of one week and has never returned?

Havent they even mentioned her on the show?

She does reports now, doesn't she? I've seen her occasionally, and I think it's been mentioned in this thread before.

Doesn't she also dabble in local radio? Or am I imagining that?

mrs b. now produces her own camcorder news reports - and she is in charge of the reception area at the mailbox - arranging events and displays like weather idol, the doctors set, countryfile display and what not.

Bearnadette Kearney did a report on tonights show. I didn't think that I heard Nick correctly, but it definately was her. What is happening to the astons? On the late show last night, they were back to noremal, being three quarters across te screen, but now they're back to the bodged style.

It's all gone very quiet from our regular correspondents in the Midlands. You're not telling me that the "revolution" of the sofa was a one day wonder ?
