Tweaking some earlier mocks... (September 2003)

Mr Q
I developed some mocks for BBC News 24 a few months ago, and now following some tweaks made to the graphics set at N24, as well as the introduction of a part time ticker, I felt it fitting to do the same.

Titles
Slight difference to the titles, with a change in the colour scheme, and an adjustment of the rings. I've also thought that for Weekend 24, that the word WEEKEND could be laid on top of the 24 circle.

Ticker and Clock
After the headlines and titles, the ticker appears as well, running underneath the clock, which now includes the date (you'll see why shortly). Although I've not developed one, a sidebar could be used stretching from the base of the clock to the top of the screen, perfectly framing the BBC News 24 DOG.

Aston
Deriving inspiration from Sky News (like they've never done that before...) instead of a title bar, a shorter title is placed on the left of screen next to the main body of the aston.

Breaking News Aston
A brighter, redder aston to highlight the Breaking News here.

Location Aston and Live DOG
The Live DOG replaces the date.

Breaking News Ticker
Well, if things get very serious, the normal ticker is replaced by a special Breaking News one to highlight the important facts coming in to Television Centre.

Split Screen
The standard split screen display, although of course other configurations can be used. There is also room for an aston underneath the split screen, although one is not used here.

Yep they are fab. I did make some mocks similar to what you've got there a few weeks back but never bothered uploading them.

My only suggestion would be two things:

1) Stick the clock solid on top of the ticker as opposed to it being slightly transparent.

2) Cut the ticker off at the right of the clock so it would go behind the date/LIVE display. I don't really see any point in letting it run all the way to the left of the widescreen picture, just makes it look, like, "sticky out" down there for want of a better phrase.

Of course, feel free to ignore me but that's my thoughts and I like these mocks albeit Sky News in different colours, fonts and widescreen but there you go Smile

Ah, well the two are actually related. The reason the clock is slightly transparent is because otherwise the ticker would have to stop to the right of the clock. The reason I don't want to do this is because it would look strange on a widescreen TV, I believe, to see the ticker just stop there, and then have empty space to the left of the clock. So the clock is placed on top of the ticker, slightly transparent so you can see it continuing underneath, to ensure that having the ticker continue across the bottom of the screen makes sense.

Of course, there's also the reason that is just fits in with the design better - but we won't worry about that one too much. Wink

Well, I designed it myself. It's not copied from anywhere.
