You didn't miss much. Unlike a general election when they come from Studio 4, they were in the usual cramped Studio 3 for the majority of their coverage, with a good selection of OBs at various count centres. At least RTE bothered. Virgin Media One once again have given up on news and did bugger all. How do they get away with it? Do they not have a quota to fill on national events such as this or does the Irish broadcasting authority not bother?
Virgin Media don't care about News, even if it provides most of its viewers outside of the soaps. We have to be grateful that there is any coverage at all today. Remember that they had no news at all from Friday evening till Monday Morning for years. How they got away with it then was they told the BAI that they station would close if they weren't allowed to drop those commitments.
The coverage appears to have ended on RTÉ One before 8pm with Miriam O'Callaghan concluding the day's coverage at Dublin Castle.
The remainder of the defeated candidates & The Taoiseach had given their speeches & thanks to those in Dublin Castle afterwards. That part of the TV coverage was shown briefly on RTÉ News Now up until before 8:15pm. The Returning Officer said at the podium that the ballot from the Blasphemy Referendum still has to be counted with the results until probably tomorrow. RTÉ One has now gone back to it's normal schedule for the night with a repeat of Senior Moments & I presume Pat Shortt Entertainment from D'Telly & the extended news bulletin after that? I missed most of the coverage on the TV because I had been away visiting in Dublin today.
