I believe this also marks the first time in at least 15 years that CNN and HLN will not have any daily broadcast from Los Angeles anymore. Larry King Live and Showbiz Tonight had been coming from the LA bureau for more than a decade before all these latest shows.

A true shame as I really think there's so much room for national media to improve their coverage here out west. Our national media would be a lot less toxic if it weren't so centralized in New York and DC.

Interesting point. Not sure if LA is the key. But do think NYC and DC is definetely a big problem. I think that CNN's spiritual home is Atlanta and most everything IMO should emanate from CNN Center. I think with the main newsrooms in Atlanta and main broadcast studios in NYC and DC has really had a detrimental effect on its ability to be nimble and quick to jump on stories. But the current political climate has further destroyed and decimated most news channels ability to cover anything else but politics. Now 99% of stories are political. Little to nothing else is covered. They used to do weather and sports. Neither is shown with the exception of hurricane coverage.

The move to NY always struck me as a bit odd.

It makes sense for a financial news network to be based there for sure, but a news network for whom the bulk of its output is of a political nature then DC would surely be the starting point.

That said, I would have thought that the real estate needed to run CNN would be vastly cheaper in Atlanta than in DC or NY. Why not continue day-to-day newsgathering operations from there with the support of smaller bureaux in DC, LA and NY.

Its always essentiall been the Robin Meade channel for while now. She is kinda good. She is very easy going and handles breaking news very well. And she has a girl next door style.

Morning Express does seem to have its own niche in the breakfast show market - it's quicker and much more easy-going than many of the other breakfast shows. Not sure it sounds my cup of tea - some of the intros to stories seem a bit too casual (almost a 'hey guys, have you heard about this awful flood in Indonesia' type tone) - but can totally understand its popularity. It sounds a good show to watch if you don't have much time and want to get a quick run through the news and Robin Meade gets a lot of praise.

Weren't CNN rumoured to want Robin Meade to join New Day a few years back but she decided to stay in Atlanta and with her Morning Express show?

Yes. They really wanted to utilize Robin on other CNN programs, and they eyed her up for NewDay. But she wont leave Atlanta. And since the entire HLN channel rests heavily on her and her style, they didnt push her too hard. She is in a really good spot frankly. But if they decide to shut down HLN, which I have a feeling might happen eventually, she will be ok. She is also a country music recording artist. She always calls the viewers: Morning Sunshine.
This clip is from back in 2016 but is kinda gives you an idea of her style. If you a mom or like a quick friendly accessible newscast, it really works. Again not everyone's cuppa tea.

Think that clips is what I was getting at with the segues.
The one where she goes from talking about celebrities to 'Thousands of people want Bill Clinton arrested' in the blink of an eye and from a baby falling out a car straight into who Christina Aguilera picked on The Voice seemed slightly abrupt gear changes for me. But can totally see why it and Robin is popular - they pack a lot of stories in and she's full of energy.

Considering they've never set the 5th floor studio for New Day, I don't think it looked that bad, albeit it a little cramped. There was an edition of GPS fairly recently that had 6 guests at that desk with both wings deployed. They won't do much more to that set until they move to their new headquarters.

It looks much bigger when set for other shows such as PrimeTime Justice.

Although if they were doing new day from New York at the weekend. It begs the question, why didn’t they use the regular weekday studio!

I'm assuming staffing Studio 71 (New Day) is pretty costly at the weekend. In comparison, it'd be like staffing Studio B at BBC News.
