Charlie Powell did indeed make his on-screen debut this evening.

There was a pre-recorded item with Kylie Pentelow chatting to him whilst wandering around behind the scenes in the newsroom, gallery etc. They avoided referring to the fact it's in Bristol, keeping the item neutral enough to be shown on the "Plymouth" edition of the programme.

Similarly, when they demonstrated how chromakey works (Kylie called it "green screen". Ugh) they used a pan-regional map, with place names from the Isles of Scilly to Swindon labelled.

They mentioned that Charlie has been a meteorologist for 10 years. He doesn't look old enough, to me! Must've started before he'd even done his GCSEs!

They called it green screen because it is a green screen, and green is the best colour to use, because it's an easier colour to avoid in clothing terms, than the other common chromakey colour of blue.

Chromakey is a technical term, where as Green Screen is a name that is pretty easy to understand. The screen is green and you digitally replace the screen. It's a good name.

I'm pretty sure that Meridian/South Today has the far better claim to Salisbury than West Country/Points West does. I thought that the same would be true of Amesbury, and can't believe that it's 50:50 split.

Apart from when the solstices and equinoxes happen, I'm sure that Salisbury getting mentioned on the Brizzle news programmes is rarer than rocking-horse sh!t. But they were all over the Skripals story as if Salisbury were the beating heart of the West of England region.

Sorry to drag this thread back a few days but only just seen this and thought I'd comment. I remember when visiting my brother at boarding school in North Dorset many years ago, the school was in the SP (Salisbury Plain) postcode district some 22 miles west of Salisbury itself and despite the Salisbury transmitter and the much closer Winterbourne Stickland transmitters both being relays of the Meridian region, the school obviously got a much better signal from Mendip as I remember a TV in the school showing what was then HTV West.

What region the majority of people actually in the city of Salisbury actually watch, I don't know, but if people just outside Salisbury are getting a better signal from Mendip then it's perfectly reasonable for ITV West to be covering the story in depth.

Superb quirky close with David outside in the Spotlight garden for the weather on a deck chair, paddling pool and inflatable shark, then Justin and Natalie joined him.

Not your average 'travel disruption' warning on the Spotlight Breakfast bulletin this morning. Very Happy

How so? It animates to that graphic rather nicely on screen.
