KTVU, the Fox station for the San Francisco/Oakland/San Jose market, just unveiled its rejigged second floor studio that overlooks the Oakland Estuary and Alameda Island. This studio has been off air for the better part of a year. The downstairs studio is now currently getting a new set.

Here's what the set looked like before. It was a much more thrown together sort of thing in a smaller footprint. This screencap is darker because is this from their 7pm news.

Problem with a real backdrop over looking the bay area in a news set is that one rumble of an earthquake and they will lose that set.

Television stations in the Bay Area and other earthquake-prone areas do have contingencies should something happen. The same can also be said in the event of hurricanes, as best shown in the case of WTVJ Miami during 1992's Hurricane Andrew

Would they really have been safer there?

The safest place in a hurricane is the lowest level of the building preferably in an interior room. So yes.

That does look very 'temporary'. (And those plasma/LCD screen stands look very 'conference room')

Quite like their new desk, even if the rest of the set looks a bit spartan.

WISH 8 - Indianapolis, Indiana - the former independent, now CW affiliated tv station that lost its CBS affiliation drastically ramped up their news broadcasts to 70hrs a week. For decades the station branded itself as 24 Hour News 8 . Now they really live up to that name with mulitple daily newscasts and updates across the day. Recently they have debuted a new set. The station is now owned by NEXSTAR which is a group not know for creating "pretty" in fact they are pretty tragic looking. This is certainly a new look with video ribbons and with heavy dose of red to compliment the long-time red logo they really created a bright modern look.

They’re likely going to get a new set upstairs. Before it was very temporary (compared to this) with a portable lighting rig and I think carpeted floors. Now it’s got a professional rig (likely to building codes) and a proper floor.

It is infinitely better than the standard Nexstar set.

It looks like they had three different looks in mind and just merged them.
