Cant imagine the EBU would be able to remove it from Israel without other broadcasters withdrawing if the Israeli government are contesting the withdrawal - broadcasters wont want to be seen as supporting what could be descending into a situation where accusations of prejudice at EBU is being laid at them.

Really is disappointing the BBC don't just air a blank screen 24/7 rather than wasting licence fee money on content.
Lol. I just mean that it might be too difficult for them to volunteer to be host as they did in the 1960's and 1970's - unless it was funded as a joint hosting.

It's a myth that hosting the show is financially crippling - much of that revenue is covered by sponsorship and ticket sales. Even stuff you don't see on screen, for example in Lisbon, Super Bock were the official beer in Eurocafe, Eurovillage and the venue itself - no other beer was sold.
The BBC would NOT be permitted under the terms of it's Charter to accept sponsorship in any form which puts the UK at a hosting disadvantage.
Surely though the BBC are just the broadcasters as they are with a sports event. It isn't their event and the sponsorship isn't of their broadcast or indeed seen on screen.
I Don't think it is something we need to worry about though - think at the moment a few countries would have to turn it down before the BBC were asked.

There must be ways round it for the stuff we don't see on screen? Not to mention the sponsors of the EBU and the arena. And in any case, we'd still dump out the credits early to avoid the sponsors.

That argument is trickier. This isn't an even that the BBC buys coverage of, and that takes place independently, it's an event that the BBC would host and show produce. Unlike almost any other European broadcaster the BBC's rules on sponsorship are tighter. (SVT in Sweden and NRK in Norway have looser sponsorship rules for 'international' events for instance...)

Well the BBC technically buys coverage of it from the EBU. There must be several sport events the BBC host broadcast, and there's lots of sponsorship in the ground. In the World Cup there was no attempt to block sponsor credits such as Hisense, when they went to huge levels to cover up Tele2 logos on the scoreboard in Stockholm a few years back.
I daresay there's a way around it, and possibly exceptions made for this particular extraordinary event.
Be wary of what you ask.... Any 'one off' changes to the Charter must be resisted, that opens all sorts of intra-renewal possibilities.
The contest clearly is the production of the broadcaster hosting it, with all that involves. The broadcaster providing it to the EBU for distribution. Anyway this is all academic. The chances of a UK win in the foreseeable future must be remote.
