Through the news in the uk does sometimes have to put stories that wouldn't get in the bulitain the rest of the year to fill the time.

I meant really the main news bulletins on BBC One, lunchtime, early evening and main evening bulletins - those were nearly always the same length during the summer.
What an odd day to start the shorter bulletins , why the 2nd of August why not the 1st ?
I presume it's because somebody is going on leave today rather than from Friday
Yes it's a long time ago now but people seem to forget the BBC's soft news programme , Nationwide , took a break and of course Newsnight a few years ago ran a shorter programme

Quote:
RTE must be happy reducing them, as I never recall the BBC or ITV here cutting back their news bulletins over the summer

From RTÉ Press Office Re: RTÉ News
This season will see the unveiling of a brand new look for RTÉ News as its studio under goes a major refurbishment and technical upgrade. Broadcasting over 1,000 news bulletins each year, this will be the first refurbishment of the studio in ten years, with the brand new look being launched on-air in early 2019. This autumn also sees the return of Prime Time and Claire Byrne Live with more live studio debate, more revelations uncovered by RTÉ Investigates and The Big Picture looks set to shine a light on another key societal issue across RTÉ platforms. As the country looks ahead to a likely presidential election and referendums, the Budget, and the marking the centenary of the end of the first World War, RTÉ News & Current Affairs will deliver unrivalled comprehensive coverage. Early 2019 will also see programming marking the centenary of the first Dáil and the outbreak of the War of Independence.
Also a special treat for all of us presentation geeks
In a special event, Election 1918 presented by David McCullough, re-enacts how Ireland’s only 32-county election and its momentous results would have been covered by modern television.

The background of Studio 3 is decorated with Papal graphics for Pope Francis's visit to Ireland. It's not a great looking set of studio graphics. The shot of the backdrop behind in the studio behind Bryan Dobson looks very blurred. The rest of the graphics though looks nice being coloured in white & yellow. The Live bug on the top left hand corner of the screen is mixed coloured in two sets of colours in red & white & yellow & white.
Stephen Murphy is the first reporter for this afternoon's coverage. His live pictures were sourced from a stream with low quality pictures for some of it from Sean McDermott Street. Other reporters are going to based around Dublin for this visit. Sharon Tobin is live outside St Mary's Pro Cathedral & Joe Mag Raollaigh is live on O'Connell Bridge.
Joe Little is talking to Bryan Dobson in Studio 3.

This will mean RTE News will have to be kicked out of Studio 3 soon, as work on refurbishing the studio and creating the new look will take a number of weeks. I think possibly the last news output from Studio 3 will be in December, then they will be moved out into a temporary studio. This could happen over Christmas? I wonder where they will relocate to? Studio 2 maybe?

Will it take long to find out who is elected President, because I remember the 2016 general election took days to find out the full 158 TDs in the Dail. Is the presidential election a bit faster with the results?
It has been announced today that the vote for the Irish Presidential Election will take place on Friday the 26th October. TV coverage of the results will take place the day after on Saturday the 27th. Presidential Nominations will close on Wednesday the 26th of September.

I think I heard some time ago from RTÉ that two referendums are going to be held on the same day as the presidential election. So I presume that these upcoming results at that point in October will be slower than normal. I think one upcoming referendum is on the woman's place within the home & I can't think of the other one to hand. Maybe someone here could help me out?
